This Island Mirth

THE METEOR DAMAGED COMMAND BASE OF METALUNA (FROM SCIFI CLASSIC This Island Earth)

EXETER AND BRACK ARE COWERING UNDER A TABLE (THEY ARE BIG HEADED 50S ALIENS)

BRACK
Damn those Zagons we have no chance against their super organised meteor attacks, and soon the dreaded homobeam will finish us off.

EXETER
I have a plan my old friend. I've discovered a small primitive planet in the universe of Sol they might just save us.

BRACK
They're a feirce warrior race, super athletic warriors, they have managed to master biogenetic weapons?

EXETER
Not quite.

BRACK
Oh they have millions of soldiers for us to plunder and die in our places?

EXETER
They're really sarcastic.

BRACK
So what?

EXETER
The Zagon's huge advantage is their fanatical devotion to their government. But a brilliantly targetted half hour broadcast of satirical critique could shatter their very society.

BRACK
And how do you propose we build this dooms day broadcast?

EXETER
I'll fly to Earth and establish a small satirical radio show one exclusively listened to by the most brilliant comedy writers. Then trick the writers into joining our crusade.

BRACK
That just might work. As long as the show's title sounds vaguely masturbatory.

SCENE2

THE NOW COMPLETED DESTROYED COMMAND BASE
GRAMS The Newsjack closing theme

IT HAS BEEN PLAYING ON AN INTEROSETER

EXETER TURNS OFF THE INTEROSETER

EXETER
What a load of crap. It's all mock interviews and rotten puns no wonder it didn't stop the terrible Zagon hordes.

BRACK
Told you we should have kidnapped News Revue. Crap here comes the homo beam again

GRAMS THEREMIN MUSIC

SCREEN GOES ALL TWINKLY

PULL BACK TO REVEAL EXETER AND BRACK ARE BEING BUMMED BY MUTANTS

EXETER
Could have been worse. We could have hired Sootyj. He wrote this shite.

oooh metafictional

Are you drunk? What is this?

Sometimes your humour is that of someone who reads
a very big, very wide newspaper.

This is my 2 penneth;
Your highs are quality, very near mad genius status and a
pleasure to read and be given opportunity to offer feedback/
due praise. That is what I honestly think.

But your lows, are low.

If this a piece of throwaway, no harm done I suppose, but
really you oughta be trying your best with everything you
attach your name to, if you expect people to spend their
time reading.

ps, if this was meant as a serious attempt at a sketch
then I'm very sorry for thinking otherwise and coming across
as a patronizing prick.

I saw Sunshine having a pop at Newsjack so I thought I'd join in.

Some times a sketch is just a bit of fun.

A pop? I thought it was a nice in-jokey comparison - how did non-com artists get their work known?

Okay, I'm sorry, I'm gonna give this critiquing stuff
a rest for a while and sign out because what I said seemed
quite unpleasent, I thought you was having a random rant at
posters and yourself.

I re-read and now I see what I didn't see before. It's
really actually quite clever and self aware on reflection.
Characters referencing their own writer is a cool layer.

I'm sorry again. The fact I weren't aware of Newsjack
is my fault. If I could undo the other comment I would.

Hey don't beat yourself up your feedback is good.

Which means sometimes it is passionate and intemperate, as is mine.

Sometimes your gut says more than your brain.

Or in my case my arse.

eh?

Throw a random Gordon Brown impression in there and it's comedy gold Soots ;)

eh?

The premise of Sunshine's sketch.

Should have kidnapped Spicer, he'd have f**ked them Zagons no bother...
