Way to Gogh

Van Gogh:
You think I'm a good painter don't you?

Gauguin:
Of course mate, why what's up?

Van Gogh:
It's just that I can't really manage to sell any of my paintings and it's driving me mad.

Gauguin:
That's what it's like though, for uncomissioned painters there just aren't the opportunities! Have you tried getting anything on ArtJack?

Van Gogh:
I Didn't even get that charcoal sketch they send you to say that they've received your paintings. It's not my type of Art anyway.

Gauguin:
Yeah, they like a lot of Tropical stuff, Beaches that sort of thing, I'm sure there are other places to send your paintings.

Van Gogh:
There isn't that many mate! and you'd think there would be with all the crap they have in the galleries.

Gauguin:
Didn't "Painted For Aesthetic Purposes" get back to you & ask you for a repaint?

Van Gogh:
Yeah that was a close one. Here it is actually! what do you think?

Gauguin:
You've painted better

Van Gogh:
Don't just say that, at least elaborate

Gauguin:
It needs trimming, get rid of a few stars & swirly bits.

Van Gogh:
Maybe I should just give it all up!

Gauguin:
Listen to me Vincent, you are a talented artist, maybe even the finest of your generation and even if you don't get recognition in this lifetime then you will certainly go down in Art History.

Van Gogh:
F**k that! I just want the Money

Didn't like the punch Steve. I imagined the rest as a Smith and Jones head to head and thought it was an enjoyable exchange, that didn't really go anywhere.

Cheers Will.
But it's all a bit injokey, and therefore for Critique alone methinks.
So I got out quick.

I got the metahumour or whatever it is called :)

Intertextual oooh er!

Lovey
Whenever Marc P goes on Critique an Angel writes a skit.
:)

I had a good snigger at this but I suppose it IS a bit of an 'in' joke which makes sense to writers only. Reminds me a bit of the boatman in 'Shakespeare in Love' who fancied himself as a writer.
But thanks for the laugh.

I am bit thick tonight in not seeing this as an in-house skit >_<

I look forward to your sketches they tend to be pro standard.

I liked this one too, obviously in-jokey but this Van Gogh would still work in other versions that everyone could relate, "Y'wanna get yourself on that Hollands Got Talent show" etc.

The punchline worked for me cos I was expecting a "Did I mention I've met a girl I like? She commented on how cute my ears are" kind of payoff.

This way makes him a bit of cock, which is funny.

Good suggestions, but then it led me to wonder - how would the audience know who they are? Would they be seen standing in front of well-known paintings?

It's a good point.
If I was sending this anywhere I'd probably start with a seamless: Hows it going Van Gogh? Not bad Gauguin, sorry I've forgot your first name.
:D
EDIT
Eugene Henri Paul
(I was going to say Paul)

Or you could be really really subtle and have Don McClean wander through frame strumming an accoustic guitar.

On another point, in his self potrait I always thought Vince comes across as quite the angry lookin mean Irishman.

At my next comedy store gong show I'm gonna enter stage with:
"So, what's the deal with this Vincent Van Gogh? Couldn't he
simply have used a cotton bud"

Hi Ladies & Gentleman
Nice to have you Ear.
