Are you following these posts??

I explained why I said his point was ignorant,.....

Dear Nuts, I have been told that I must apologise for threatening to kick you in the eye. It was very wrong of me to suggest such a thing as the eyes are a very precious tool as far as a comedy writer is concerned. So I'm sorry.

Many thanks

Come on guys just stick to what's being discussed here, it's not a bitching competition, I have a feeling know one would win as you're both terrible at it :D

Seefacts, stop being such a cum-drenched whore, and just go and update your website will you. It’s empty....a bit like your head. :D Whistling nnocently

Good one.

Oh yea, I really did a lot searching in order to find your site. Who woulda thought that it was under each of your posts in the form of a button, all along.

Never said you did lots of looking. I just said you found it. In the same way I find you're a bit of a walloper.

How old are you, seriously? I thought angry geek chic died out about 10 years ago.

If you leave a lot of chidren together without adult supervision, this is what happens. I can't resist it.......Listen you lot, I was earning a living when the best part of you was dribbling down.........etc...etc...etc.

Now, let that be an end to it, it's not clever you know.

It's not clever no . . . On THIS thread anyway.

On the sitcom one you started in the critique forum it's okay :D

Well I thought Ceefax died out 10 years ago, but that hasn't seemed to have stopped you.

:S

You thought wrong then. It's still going . . . Until 2011, so only then you have a valid point.

No age question answer for me then?

Then we can stop arguing. I'm only passing time until Die Hard 3 starts.

This thread has obviously gone off topic into a pointless area of discussion. Therefore the thread has been closed.

Yes, this is just ridiculous. An interesting debate spoilt because certain parties descended into pathetic name calling and personal insults rather than making valid arguments and backing them up.

I'm opening the thread again because I think there's still some interesting debate to be had, and hopefully people have calmed down a bit now - but no such personal attacks will be tolerated, and I shan't hesitate to get out my huge, magnificent penis banning stick if I deem it necessary.

nfgjfgmgh

Boss - can you strip the topic back and remove all the arguing and sniping that went on?

If you could delete the posts up back until the one I posted at January 3, 2008, 9:22 PM GMT (then I can remove my sniping) that'd be right lovely.

I want to continue the attitudes when writing debate!

Given your slagging off of Ricky Gervais I find this post ironic.

Your profile says you're 19. I can tell.

I had the same views as this, but you'll realise that's bullshit. If you have that attitude you'll get nowhere. Believe me, you'll be licking the boots of anyone who takes any bit of interest in your work - even if it means wholesale changes.

When I was your age (I'm 23 now and have grown up), I too was 'Well, if it's not Seinfeld then I'm not interested. I'm not going out at 8.30!' but I grew out of it. For the better.

I wrote a kid's show pilot script - it twice nearly got me a meeting at the BBC, and was lined up to pitch it with a script editor. I wrote this because an interview with Bain & Armstrong said that you should never discount anything and write whatever you can, for whoever you can. At 18 I wouldn't have dreamed of lowering myself to writing for kids - what do they know?! 'I'm doing high art at 10pm on BBC2, don't you know!' You'll get nowhere believing that.

I've been told my current project could fit the bill in a pre-watershed BBC slot. Again, at 18-19 I'd have gone 'WHAT? I'm not doing pre-watershed shit!' but you grow up and realise that just because most pre-watershed and popular shows are shit, doesn't mean yours has to be.

Don't go thinking your the next Peter Baynham or George Meyer, or whatever under-rated cult writer, because that's not how things work. You have to pay your dues.

You misunderstand me though. I love mainstream comedy just as much as cult comedy, some of my favourite comedies are mainstream. And I would quite happily write mainstream comedy, I actually think the comedy I write could be classed as mainstream comedy...but the point I've been trying to make is that mainstream doesn't always have to be the lowest common denominator. Mainstream can still be clever, passsionate and very funny. That's the point I'm trying to make. Hey I'd write a kids TV show to and like my other writing I'd try to make that the best I possibly could and put lots of effort into making it funny. The point I disagree with is the fact that if you want to do mainstream you have to dumb down, I don't believe that. So I agree with a lot of what you say, so please don't patronise me with the "When I was you age..." stuff, because that is really annoying.

I don't get what you mean by me been hypocritical because of the Gervais thread? I agree with a lot of what Gervais says but I just think he puts across in a smug and hypocritical way.

I agree. I believe I said much the same earlier. (I gave the example of The Simpsons.)
