Michael McIntyre! Page 9

Stew's article made for interesting reading! I can't believe comments from a 2 year old stand up routine were masqueraded as comments made at the Comedy awards, terrible.

Apparently Lee Mack called MM a skipping c**t recently and J Ross mocked him at the awards...

:D He might not have been pushing comedy into new grounds, but he was sure keen on acquiring them.

At the expense of millions of lives, you're worse than Boyle.

It's true that was pathetic of me.

And funny.

I am not sure what to think about this. Though I do think that as usual, the media have hyped this up in order to get a story.

McIntyre is good at what he does, though this might not push comedy into new grounds and may not appeal to all, its harmless fun.

Jan Moir, on the other hand, has cooked up a story our of miss quoting, and seems to have totally missed Stewart Lee's irony, and what's worse she has lumped him in with Frankie Boyle.

Ridiculous.

Can't these Mail columnists take a joke? It's political correctness gone mad!

And funny.

And you're worse than Hitler! At least he didn't do the things he did just for his amusement. ;)

It's true that was pathetic of me.

I wouldn't have said pathetic, but it was pretty ironic! If anything, I think 'it's just a joke' is a better excuse than satire, not that these jokes need excusing, but having written both types of jokes, I found satire to be the one I struggled to justify to my self morally.

Michael McIntyre doesn't do nearly enough rape jokes.

Let's face it, just like singers/musicians, the more simplistic a stand up's routines are, the more success they seem to have.

The masses like simplicity.

Nothing wrong with a bit of simplicity.

Also, what's with all of today's stand ups suddenly wearing dull navy blue or black suits?

Nothing wrong with a bit of simplicity.

I prefer more edgy stuff, but I am quite right on.

This is quite funny: http://www.chortle.co.uk/features/2011/07/19/13653/stewart_lee%3A_what_i_really_think_about_michael_mcintyre

Dan

There's also a gloriously delicious irony here, which I wish I could divulge.

I'll just say this: good article. And funny, yes. Sometimes, journalists are twats.

Hmmmm, if comedy is pleasurable stabbing, McIntyre doesn't cut deep enough, for me. Popular because he's pedestrian.

The keeping of gossip is just mean- you have to tell us now...

Personally, I think that if a comedian accepts the position of being a judge on Britain's Got Talent then they have to accept a huge amount of criticism generally. Especially when they are so ubiquitous anyway. He should have known that by taking that sort of job he was sacrificing credibility. Similar to when Preston appeared on Big Brother...
