Ken Levine's 20 Most Commonly Asked Qs

about sitcom writing.

Dan

It must be good. It's blocked by work's webfilter :D

Yup, blocked here too. Saucy!

Don't worry, number one is probably "who the f**k is Ken Levine?"

To be fair that might be question 2 as well.

Q3 might be "why doesn't Badge Google before posting".

Mash, Frasier, Cheers, Mary Tyler Moore.

That's who!

His blog is a must read for anyone who wants to write comedy. (Although you have to trawl through a lot of posts about baseball and 'what I did on my holidays')

The Simpsons too. Ken's great, though it's his Celeb-based posts I find unreadable (apart from the hilarious spat with Roseanne).

Well I clicked on the link and it told me. They are in fact some of the US sitcoms I don't mind although he was probably part of a team of about 50.

Has anyone done it? Is it risky or does it go on for ever? I am notoriously short of patience.

"I'll see you on the other side"

With dialogue such as that, how can he go wrong? Errr

Each one is only about a minute long, but there's nothing earth shattering in there. It's on the 'Should my script be funny?' 'Yes, it should be as funny as you can possibly make it' level.

I'd place a guess that these are the questions he gets endlessly bombarded with, so he's sat down for an hour and recorded his answers once to avoid having to go through them every bloody time someone asks! It's probably saved him hours if not days of his life since then.

Interesting post on Ken's blog. He's uploaded an old sitcom episode (not one of his own, but from James L Brooks) that hasn't been seen for a while and which he considers a lost gem.

It's an episode from a show called 'The Associates' :-

Got to say I wasn't very impressed myself. In fact I was surprised by just how unimpressed I was, but I'd be interested in what other people think.
