Copy writing...

Does anyone on here make ends meet between projects by copywriting?

I've done a bit. it's not bad.

Soul destroying but not exactly 'bad'.

Why's it soul destroying. I love it. I suppose it depends what sort of copy you are writing.

That's very true Marc.

I'm doing woodworking tools at the moment. An end is nowhere in sight.

I guess I like writing slogans, tag lines, concepts etc for ads/campaigns. Body copy not so much for technical/boring stuff.

Did it for 20 years.
Pays better than this lark.

Howq do you get started?

Yep, I've done quite a bit of web copy over the years.
And even more obscure stuff like wedding speeches.
Oh, and cold calling scripts for marketing companies. (Sorry if you've been on the receiving end of any of them)

I get all my freelance work via clients contacting me through my website.

Make the coffee at Ad ageny for a year, another year in the production department, get given something to write, do a good job of that, progress from there...

Frankly, I lucked out.

Sooty just put it out there that you are a copywriter.

Thats all you need do...seriously.

Business Cards, some examples of work, and charge away.

Aim at small businesses.

A guy called Dan Kennedy who I'm sure a load of people have never heard of on here charges up to $100,000 for writing one sales letter.

I do a lot of copy writing at work but nowt on a freelance basis - I've seen some pretty dire stuff in my time so maybe I should do some digging and see what's out there...

Get into a BNI group that doesn't have a copywriter and you're sorted.

.....IMO the money is in Sales and Marketing copy. Because most small business owners don't have a clue.

This sounds like something I'd be good at. I would like someone to hand me a job, please.

I've been a copywriter for 15 years. Mainly greetings cards but I've just started advertising my services for other copywriting jobs. Thing is, pay rates vary a lot so you can be offered a job that'll pay 200 quid and then realise it'll take you a week to complete which is rather shit. Other jobs are a day's work for a lot more.
