You CAN damage the roots permanently, if you use a very high volume bleach over a long period of time. Usually you can grown it out though.

Remember Carey Mulligan? Best known for the long flowing locks? Suddenly appeared with a bob. Blamed on too much hair dyeing.
Red/auburn/ginger is definitely the best hair colour- but only on a woman and only when well looked after.
Favourite 'redheads' include:
Patsy Palmer
Katherine Parkinson
Karen Gillan
Florence Welch
I don't paticularly fancy her, but that is 1st class hair.

I HATE her new fringe.
Boris Becker is a bit of alright, as is Eric Stoltz.
This guy tops both the men's and the women's list of gingers for me
Who is that ginger ladyboy, Angie?
Locks like a member of Dethklok.
He has the same hair as my.... cousin in law?
Husband of cousin, anyway.
He's a model, Bartek Borowiec. Normally I like guys with a bit more meat on them, but he's weirdly attractive.
Dude needs to eat a few more burgers
AND GET A BLOODY HAIR CUT
hippy
Now a little bit Guy Garvey. Partly because of the "Reverse Mexican Wave".
The Seldom Seen Kid is such a lovely album. Warms your cockles.
