Favourite Guitar Solo

What's your favourite guitar solo?

Mine is always going to be the solo from Whole Lotta Love that comes after all the weird effects and that thunderous drum break. Balls out rock heaven and a great tone.

Any solo that's not a drum solo is fine by me.

God, they're boring.

Nooooo, listen to Moon's on, well you're spoilt for choice, but I'd say Won't Get Fooled Again and Pinball Wizard especially.

And then Bonham on Led Zepplin's Moby Dick, probably the most celebrated rock drum solo ever, I'd have thought. Definitely not boring!

Well, I suppose I meant the ones they do when you go and see a band live. You know, when the singer introduces each member of the band and they each do a little solo, the drummer always goes on FOREVER. Interminable.

It's truly great, so is WLL's classic riff (surely the best riff ever!) but I think Clapton plays the best guitar solo humanly possible on Cream's classic live version of Crossroads.

What's your favourite guitar solo?

I have two and I can't split:

Patrick Buchanan: "Back and Forth" (Cameo-Word Up);

Adrian Belew: "Naive Guitar" (Lone Rhino).

Could possibly be Steely Dan's Kid Charlemagne, performed by Larry Carlton. But then again it could possibly be whatever I'm listening to at the time, I just enjoy them as I listen.

I love guns and roses 'November rain' solo and the opening to Thin Lizzy's 'Whiskey in the jar'

Ooh, one I actually know. And it is excellent.

I laways found Slash a bit OTT.

I'm trying to think of other guitar solo's I like, but I can't think of many. Hmmm. I seem to think there was some good guitar in Whole Lotta Rosie. I like my 'Whole Lotta' songs.

Just checked and there's a good solo about the 2.30 mark.

You made me think of Skunk Baxter on "My Old School" and "Haitian Divorce". Good stuff.

The only guitar solo that ever made me shed a tear (starts at about 3:45 if you're impatient):

Guns and Roses - November Rain or Sweet Child of Mine

Or Dragon Force - Through Fire and flame.

And Bodhisattva, that is pretty monstrous, in a good way.

I notice that that version is the shortened version Gavin. Although as far as I'm concerned you don't miss much. Still 2 minutes approx cut is madness.

And now Skunk Baxter is a defence consultant specializing in missile technology. Hell of a second career ...
