Mr Bubble At Uni

MR BUBBLE - A MAN WHO LIVES INSIDE A GIANT PLASTIC BUBBLE, ROLLS INTO A UNIVERSITY LECTURE HALL AND SITS DOWN.

A HUSH DESCENDS AS THE LECTURE BEGINS.

HALF WAY THROUGH, WE SEE MR BUBBLE KNOCKING TO ATTRACT THE ATTENTION OF THE STUDENT SITTING NEXT TO HIM, BUT HE'S TOO BUSY TAKING NOTES TO NOTICE.

MR BUBBLE LOOKS FORLORN.

THE LECTURE ENDS AND THE LECTURER OPEN'S THE FLOOR TO QUESTIONS.

A FEW STUDENTS ASK QUESTIONS, THEN THE HALL FALLS SILENT.
JUST AS THE LECTURER IS ABOUT TO CLOSE THE SESSION, MR BUBBLE OPENS HIS MOUTH ZIP.

MR BUBBLE
Em, I didn't get any notes from 'Be Assertive, Be Brave, Be Bold, Box Clever, Be a bear, Be a Bear of a Man, Be a Heard Bear of a Man - How To Overcome Social Phobia'.

HE STICKS A PENCIL OUT

Anyone got a sharpener?

MY NAME IS MICKEY BUBBLE!

I meant it could be on a roll!

Mr Bubble is not for eating Pleased

This one didn't hang together as well as the last one for me.

What does his being in a bubble and being shy have to do with each other?

He's out of contact with people because of being in the bubble,so he's a bit socially phobic.

Too much of a leap I'd say.

I'm agreeing with Sooty on this Shan.

I wonder if you've over-thought things, the title of the lecture is too long and a bit irrevelant, so asking for a pencil sharpener seems to come from out of the blue.

Have you thought of making the character silent? I think there could be a lot of mileage in his awkwardness in social surroundings without having much (if any) dialogue.

Yeah, I see what you mean Angie. I think the lecture title came on the back of the kind of coffee he asked for,him sort of having a silly manner.
The pencil part was him gaining confidence from the lecture. I'll chew over where I want to go with him.

Not sure about the name: it has occurred before. "Mr Bubble" was a very funny character originally on the radio (Round the Horne?)who pronounced every word ending in "...able" as "..abable", so when I saw this thread, that's immediately who I thought of.

Oh really... never heard of that, to be honest it was a kind of lazy choice of title that I didn't think much about, thanks for the tip off.
