Films that are not bad enough to be good.

Robin Hood's Russell Crowe is such a film. I looks great and is well-acted, but the plot is just so tedious that I could find no enjoyment in it (apart from his accent). Just how any times must we endure 'boy meets girl, they hate each other, but they eventually become close', or ' hero stands up for oppressed village-folk'? At least with really rubbish films, I can enjoy them being rubbish.

Does anyone else feel this way, and if so, what is the worst example of this type of film?

I've seen several films which are bad enough to be good (Plan 9 From Outer Space being the obvious example). Not sure I've seen any which aren't bad enough to be good, but one film that is too bad to be good springs to mind - Zombie Rival: Super Ninja Master.

Almost certainly the worst film I have ever seen (and I've seen Independence Day and Hercules in New York). Despite the garish 80's coloured bin bag style costumes, you can tell the ninjas are ninjas by their headbands. Which say 'ninja' on them. The whole thing seems to be two very poor films spliced together to make something even worse.

Trailer here.

Yes, Crowe's Robin Hood movie was completely out rubbished by Costner's, of that there is no doubt. I think the last time it was on I did tune in for half an hour to laugh at it once more: Costner's crazy accent and being out acted by hundreds of trees, and the very peak of the rabid PC movement (1990s) being transferred to the 1190s as though it was totally normal. Oh and Alan Rickman thinking he was doing panto. Now that is bad to point of being watchable (although really not good in any way!). You wouldn't want that not to have been made now.

Do you mean really average films that inspire a "Meh"?

Films that are not bad enough to be good?

You mean bad films?

Maybe it's films that are good on paper but bad on celluloid?

Well I'm confused?

I watched Crimson Tide last night. That was a good film.

Ah yes. Excellent stuff. Gene Hackman with his little pug.

I think he means films that are not quite bad enough to admire for being so bad. Have I nailed it, Nogget?

Pretty much! Plan 9 is the classic example of a film which is so bad that it becomes enjoyable for that reason, while an awful lot of the stuff Hollywood turns out is dreary and predictable, but lacks that special quality which turns them from bad, to so-bad-that-it's-good.

Well, the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels were pretty awful and committed the worst of all sins: they were boring.

The Hurt Locker, absolute drivel, tedious unrealistic bollocks which somehow managed to win an Oscar for "Best Picture".

Now you're being silly, Tony.

I think I'll go for A Few Good Men. An over scripted, cliched Hollywood court room drama with Tom Cruise and Demi Moore in highly unfitting roles, the drama a bit forced, all a bit predictable, a bit overlong and overdone, BUT it had Jack Nicholson in barnstorming form, to stop it from being truly bad.

A Few Good Men is a great film with a great script by Aaron Sorkin.
