Can Women Write? Page 7
Quote: dellas @ June 5 2011, 3:38 AM BSTWhat science? you can't make up such generalisations , I have contra -indications to this bombastic statement! bloody ridiculous!
Yes I am aware that any anger will be perceived as 'hysterical' blah blah.
So fcuk it.
Mu ha ha!
You just proved my point.
Although dellas' post may have been a little frantic, I do agree that sooty is a pest and his joke is inaccurate, even if a joke.
Quote: Marc P @ June 4 2011, 11:00 PM BSTYes Ben, the writer of the family is Jackie.
I meant Joan Rivers. >_<
Quote: zooo @ June 4 2011, 9:17 PM BSTBecause you have a very fixed idea of what sort of thing you think women write about.
It's quite awful really. Although, I've just remembered that one of my favourite childhood books is by Margaret Mahy. So, I can't be as sexist as I thought.
You must have read a bit of Enid Blyton too?
Even if just Noddy!
Joan Collins writes books too.
What did you think of it Chip?

It's okay, but it's no...

Ooh bad example, should have gone for Ursula le Guin

How unfair Shandonbelle never called me a pest!
Merely strongly disagreed with me.
Speaking out on behalf of all women? How very Dworkinesque...

No it's not, she wrote loads of great kids books.
We've had this discussion.
She didn't her books veared between the creepy and the actively unpleasant and were never all that well written.
Ah yes. All those millions of kids who've loved her books are just plain wrong!
The idiots.
No just mislead.
Cultural phenomenoms rarely reflect quality.
That and she speaks to the inner bigot and bully in all of us.
Oh god, is this another one of your 'Terry and June are sinister' things...
There were a few off books among the 15 trillion she wrote per year, and she was evidently a rather dodgy person in real life. But The Faraway Tree books and the Wishing Chair are easily among the best children's literature. Plus I loved a ton of her other stuff.
Quote: sootyj @ June 5 2011, 1:58 PM BSTNo just mislead.
Misled by the fact they enjoy her books?
Or do you think kids only like it because their parents tell them to? Kids don't really do that.
Terry and June are sinister.
They killed their son and said he went to university, I remember that episode.
