Lovely ideas for sitcoms...

I'd love to create a sitcom, here are some ideas I have:

1. The beautiful ladies of daytime TV 'Loose Women' to star in their own sitcom, some of them are actresses (Lynda Bellingham, Lisa Maxwell etc.)

2. The return of Brookside as a sitcom.

3. A sitcom set in a supermarket.

Please let me know what you think of my ideas. It's about time we had a sitcom to rival the heady heights of Fawlty Towers, Only Fools... etc.

I think that you're a genius, Aqua, and that you should get on with writing these. Then put them up in critique.

Agreed, but there's more to it than just ripping off other shows. The supermarket idea was probably the closest to being original.

And is being done by Sky? They've commissioned a few comedies recently. Got Jane Horrocks in it anyway.

Balls to original I say. I've just finished a treatment for a sitcom set in a holiday camp. Hi-De-Hi did it 30 years ago but so what? As long as your take on it's different enough, nobody really seems to care.

Yes, but there has to be some originality. If it being run by a rather serious chap who had to deflect the advances of a Welsh lady and a cleaner who wants to be a holiday camp entertainer, that's probably going too far.

Or try adding a twist.
Like making it funny.

:O

Set in space.

I've thought of another idea now.

A sitcom set in a Chemist shop. Think of all those potentially hilarious lines when someone comes in to buy some condoms or incontinence pads.

You could have a scene where a young lad wants to buy condoms but never directly asks for them and the woman behind the counter tries to drag it out of him. Then put subtitles underneath showing what they really want to say.
It's just about crazy enough to work.

Some ideas are so bad that writers should avoid them at all costs, so we're told. Especially 'student sitcoms', you'd be crazy to write one of those, there's no way anyone would make it.

Fresh Meat starts this week on C4.

I've just finished writing a half hour episode of a sitcom set in a supermarket! It's my first attempt ever and I'll be sending it to Writer's Room this week. Where else would you recommend sending sitcom scripts?

I think one of the most original ideas ever had to be when two guys approached Channel 4 with a script about 3 Irish priests and their housekeeper living on an Island. I bet their first reaction was along the lines of "Em ......... What???" :)

How about a sitcom set in an abbatoir, where the manager is a serial killer and keeps sneaking his victims into the bone crusher?
