I did install Google Chrome and when I open it, it gives a blank bar that you have to type in what web you want. My point is, I can search Google on IE and get the same thing so why install it? There are no 'favourites' or 'bookmarks' at the top of the page, there's just a blamk space to type in what website you want

It's not "just a search bar" any more than IE is "just a search bar." It's a complete web browser. It has favourites/bookmarks, it has add-ons, it is faster than IE, it's safer than IE, it's BETTER than IE. You said you wanted a faster browser, so here it is!

But is it a web browser?

Jese, so can I go to IE and select Google chrome as my home page?

This has to be a joke. OK, you got me. Now you can 'fess up to being the programmer who invented Chrome.

To restore your sanity Da Butt ... I can't figure out how it happened but a couple of months ago this icon appeared on my screen - Google Chrome. Still can't work out how because surely I'd know if I downloaded something. I ignored it. However due to this discussion I investigated and you are certainly correct .. I intend to investigate further. Do you reckon it's the best?

Obviously you've done something wrong. Get rid of what you have and start again. Alternatively, see your optician. Laughing out loud

hahahah just give me an effin link, I swear I cannot get this

Bushbaby, you haven't done anything wrong, it's not a searchbar, it's just got a very stripped down interface.

It displays a Google search window as its home page. You are seeing this and thinking it is giving you just a search bar.

If you type 'www.comedy.co.uk' (without the quotes) in the white box at the top of the screen where it says 'www.google.co.uk' and press return on the keyboard you will get this site.

You can also download Safari for your computer here.

Safari uses the same rendering engine as Chrome but looks slightly more conventional, with bookmarks for facebook, YouTube etc.

It is not bugs in Firefox crashing your browser by the way but your computer. You may find that Chrome or Safari crashes if you have enough tabs or windows open. It's quite likely that you don't have enough memory on your machine.

Yes that's it Godot, I think its the memory

Are you, by any chance, clicking on 'Google Desktop'?

I installed Google Chrome and an icon appeared on my desktop as well as it was in my 'programmes' When I clicked to open it is was just a blank blue page with the Google search bar mid page. There was nothing at all to click on, to get 'favourites' or 'bookmarks' etc etc

This is why I like to check here before going to bed./ :D
