Any Thoughts On This Please?

Twice I have been told by different people that my humour is 70s. I had sort of given up on writing because of that but I got to thinking, what if I set my sitcoms in the 70s, would that be acceptable? I watched Blazing Saddles last night which I hadn't seen since it was first released and I laughed till I cried at some points. That was written/filmed in 1974. I am not suggesting of course that my writing is anywhere near as good as that....I wish Laughing out loud but wondered could one get away with a 70s idea

Give it a go, bb. It's definitely worth a try. I wouldn't do a sitcom western, though. ;)

Sounds like a good idea.

You'd have to make sure you were parodying the 70s genre really. Rather than just writing a 70s style sitcom.

Prod-cos don't want 70s-style sitcom scripts, BB. They just don't.

Look at Carla Lane, she can't get a commission for love nor money.

I've told you before: comply or die.

OK, what if, I just typed on a script already written....'Set In The Seventies'.

Nah, on second thoughts, I'll go back to crocheting antimacassars.

That's like writing the word 'dog' on a chicken. It won't fool anyone.

If you can't write contemporary humour for a contemporary audience, you're in the wrong game.

True and I definitely will never get alternative comedy as long as I live :)

Not all modern comedy is alternative, BB.

Perhaps you're going the wrong way-have you considered giving your characters monocles and brandishing cigarette holders?

:D one of the winning scripts [sitcom mission] was set in that period last year!

Bless This House is different to My Family WHY? Discuss.

Nobody gets sitcoms made anyway. Write a play. :)

What's the correct formatting for plays? Anybody got any links as I think Marc may be right (it had to happen eventually!), playwriting is the future.

LOL

Does BillWill's gizmo have a stage play template? I think Final Draft has but I haven't used it for a long while.
