Last of The Summer Wine?

Do you mean instrumental, perhaps even orchestral, rather than classical?

And do you mean Ever Decreasing Circles? ;)

Maybe instrumental - but that's a bit too broad maybe. I think people seem to have the idea now.

- Waiting for God.
- Mr Bean (although it's not really a sitcom).

It is!

Just started watching Ever Decreasing Circles for the first time... the theme reminded me of theme for Hope It Rains (another Esmonde/Larbey). Can't find out about the Hope It Rains music but Ever Decreasing Circles theme is Shostakovich's Prelude No.15.

Ever D. C. is one of my favourite sitcoms. It's excellent. Never seen Hope it Rains. Seen some of 'The other one'. I like that too, but tend to be not quite sure where it's going at times.

Another theme is 'No Job for a Lady'.

EDC is, indeed, one of the very best.

Almost identical in fact. I must play them side-by-side one day.

Weren't they both Ronnie Hazlehurst?

Edit: Yes

You're all spot on - Ever Decreasing Circles is even better than I'd hoped. (And I always have high hopes for anything by Esmonde and Larbey.)

Though I love The Good Life (called Good Neighbours here), it's the episodes of EDC I've seen so far that have really made me a Richard Briers fan. I'll put The Other One on my wish list.

Hope it Rains isn't on DVD but you can see every episode on YouTube... worth a look. I'd be really interested in what others think of it... and to know what the theme music is.

EDC had a great ending too - final episode which I think was an extra long special.

Isn't that strange?

Totally misses the point of the original title!

:)

Waiting For God had Schubert's Trout Quintet (5th Movement) on the opening and closing credits.

Odd about the re-naming thing. Perhaps another series called The Good Life already existed in North America but I've never understood why Jam and Jerusalem became Clatterford.

Your network executives don't credit you with much intelligence. Jam & Jerusalem's a slightly obscure title for many Brits.

Why do they think people have to understand titles anyway?
Who cares? No one knows what Reservoir Dogs means (because it doesn't mean anything) and it was still a popular film.
