Rape jokes Page 6

Oh yuh the wrestling stuff was kinda taking the ridiculousness of bigotry and TV hype and inflating it till it exploded.

I think you watch RCB and you pretty much get the impression he doesn't like women much. Same with Jim Davidson that or they don't care but know a bit of prejudicial humour sells seats.

Well that pretty much is an example of the exact types of jokes people in here are NOT defending. Plus I kind of feel like this sort if comedy is totally defunct nowadays. It only got to survive because if the WMC comedy culture, which no longer exists. Acts who have material which is overtly racist/ sexist/ cruel amply do not survive current comedy circuit.

(that was in reply to Sooty.)

Wasn't suggesting they were. I was suggesting that the same defence used to protect a Frankie Boyle or Jerry Sadowitz is the same one Dicey Clay or Chubby Brown will use.

This may be a bit bitchy of me but I would guess mostly by people who never saw him live, it's one thing to laugh at Jim Carrey's representation of him reading out "The Great Gatsby" in it's entirety to an audience but I would imagine it would've been pretty dull to have actually been there.

By the way, I'm not saying that Andy Kaufman wasn't a "comedy legend" (whatever that actually means) and I appreciate that without people pushing the boundaries comedy would be static and, hence, very dull, but sometimes the people who do the pushing are not actually very funny (even if they are paving the way for funnier people who follow).

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have stuck around listening to an entertainer reading a novel in it's entirety either. I really brought up Kaufman to contest the claim that a person looking to proke an audience should look someplace other than comedy for a career, after all, Kaufman made a pretty good fist of it (until the whole lung cancer thing anyway).

Assuming he didn't fake that?

You know the rumour is he's actually Jim Carrey.

Assuming he didn't fake that?

No, I spoke to Kaufman and he assures me he's quite dead.

Maybe you'd find it funny if you saw Frankie perform it! Assuming you were replying to me of course.

I was indeed. And maybe. But I doubt it. I just don't think in this instance it's a very good joke.

All comedy is subjective, particularly schadenfreude-based stuff. My opinion:

"Rape joke" is an oxymoron.. with the emphasis on the moron part.

IMO.

It is simply re-enforcing violence against the person.

Ha he told me he'd died 50 years ago and had in fact faked his whole life.

There was a rape joke I quite like.

"What's worse than [some random white person problem]?"

"Being raped."

I can't remember who said it or what the full joke was. Possibly a Frankie.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

EDIT: It was Jimmy Carr. One of his live shows. Flashed up on screen before he came on stage.

Reading this and your previous post makes me realise how lucky you lot are to have me posting on this forum - I give you the academic stuff juiced down to a lovely fruit crush instead of this joke-free stream of consciousness of obviousness and banality.

Does that mean I am the Wise to your Morecambe?

Nah, dude, I know, I know, that was unforgivably long :) Didn't even expect anyone to read it, to be honest, so fair play to yeh!

Oh, and of course it was joke-free. I'm not a comedian. Which is why I enjoy reading this forum, you lot are so articulate and entertaining ;)

P.S sorry for taking this off topic.

'Oh, halloo.'

Why did Ken Dodd rape a tree?

He loves knotty gash!

Is there any reason why this joke shouldn't start with "Why did Ken Dodd f**k a tree?" instead? I'm asking because I don't see how "rape" adds to the humour.

My preferred option would be: "Why did Ken Dodd have consensual sex with a tree that he knew didn't object to the use of a term for the vagina that some people find disrespectful?"

:( On a more sombre note, has any one
had a personal experience of rape of sexual violence?

If not the complexity of rape is an 'abstract concept'.

The reality is terrifying, I have nothing else to add.

Deliberate over statement.

Like why is Thomas the Tank Engine Blue?
Because he's got f**king tourettes you sack of c**ts.

I'm sure your stnadup would be in Swahili with traditional Laap throat singing and wouldn't have any punchlines because that would be too violent.

You pointy headed Guardian reading, crying over Osama libera Badge.

I'm with Badge on this one.
