Do you GROW? Page 20

All parts of it are toxic.....at least to humans. AFAIK birds eat many berris, etc, which are toxic to humans.

There are many common plants which are poisonous- most people don't even realise. And why would they? The pips in apples are toxic- if you ate about a cupful you'd die. The leaves on rhubarb are also toxic.

I knew about rhubarb leaves. They are massive too. They well want to kill us.

Laughing out loud!

Today, I planted my cabbages, sprouts, calabrese, leeks and a few ornamentals such as nasturtiums and lavenders.

So what happens with the cabbages then?
Can you do one in a pot?
I planted a few seeds & they've sprouted.

You can do one in a pot- provided the pot is large enough to allow the root to fully develop. If you plant it in a pot that is too small, you'll just get a smaller cabbage, so there is nothing to lose.

If you plant it out in the open ground, just space them out about 2ft apart if you've got the room. If not, again, you'll get smaller hearts the closer you plant them together.

Wherever you plant them, keep 'em covered for their whole life or the pigeons will devastate them.

I'll just thin them out so there's on in the pot & grow myself a little one.
And maybe get an Airgun for the pigeons.

In other Do You Grow News.
I have retired my old Strawberry plants & the replacements seem good.

That Raspberry plant that I thought had died seems to be alive & well.

Tomatoes all doing well & enjoying the sunshine.

& I've definitely got some flowers growing at the front but can't remember what they all are, except the Poppies that frankly look pathetic at the moment.

Careful with the tomatoes there, Steve. I'm not planting mine out until June as even a mild frost would totally ruin them.

Our tomatoes were planted 3 months ago and in another month or so will stop producing (until October or so) due to the searing summer heat. What a difference a few thousand miles makes.

I'm growing parsley at the minute. Need to separate them into their own pots soon. I'll be so proud.

My lettuces and carrots are massive. I haven't killed them! Woo!

Cool. Where are you growing carrots?

Outside, under a plastic thingy. (In my parents' garden.)
The carrots I planted outside of the plastic cover are still tiny.

I know what you mean. Well done. I haven't planted any veg this year. Might do shallots when I can be bothered. At the minute I just have a few herbs and lettuce leafs.
