Writing deadline extended for Messrs Comedy show

Hello writers,

Messrs Comedy are extending their deadline for submissions for our next production.

The deadline for submissions will now be the 31st of May.

The new production will have a run at the Leicester Square Theatre in June and then transfer for a further nights at the Kings Arms in Manchester.

Our aim is to showcase work from aspiring writers and after our recent sell-out show at the venue, we are now looking to ride on that success.

We ask writer's to submit material of varying styles, themes and influences and we make just the simple demand of minimal technical requirements and no more than five minutes in length.

We also use 1-2 minute audio sketches throughout the show so feel free to email any audio ideas/scripts that you may have.

Messrs Comedy are a two-man sketch show however we have a troupe of three fantastic female actresses so please bare this in mind when submitting.

The deadline for submissions is...

Hope to hear from you soon.

Happy writing.

All the best,

James Britton& Hugh O'Shea
NOTE: All submissions in Microsoft Word format or Adobe.

I guess this doesn't have to be topical - just short sketches.

What have you produced before?

Hi Chappers - I'm nothing to do with the show but got something on and went to see their last show. And very good it was too!

No it's not topical, which is a good job as it was about 4 months between submitting and performing last time!

In fact doesn't even have to be that short. Most sketches were 1-2 minutes but the odd 5 minute one made it into the last show. For more info on that (and even a good review) check out this thread:

Nice one Stephen, did anyone else ever get anywhere with this? I got a 'no but you came close'. Which is better than a 'no and please never contact us again you talentless tart.'

Anybody know what

Messrs Comedy are a two-man sketch show however we have a troupe of three fantastic female actresses

means?

They don't want to claim for the female actors (as we now have to call them) due to tax reasons?

Michael - alas got the same e-mail this time, close but no cigar.

Griff - the actual cast in the show last time was 2 men and 3 women. I presume the 2 men (James & Hugh) select the sketches, direct and produce the show then they are joined by 3 female actors for the performances. I'll say that confidently and then it will become fact.

Hang on a minute. I thought they said the deadline was extended to the 31st. Have I got this wrong?

That's what it says above. What have you misunderstood?

The show was supposed to be on over the bank holiday weekend but obviously that's been put back.

Dan

I was confused by people getting answers before the deadline. usually we don't get them til after...if at all.

In my defence, I am horribly jet-lagged and not very clever.

Yes I was confused by the original post as the shows are on over the 2nd May bank holiday weekend (i.e. before the deadline!). The original deadline was the end of April so I'm guessing this is for their next show?

And here's some free publicity for their shows:

Should you wish to attend our show, as many of the external writers do to see first hand for whom they're writing for, we will be performing the show at our resident location, The Leicester Square Theatre - Basement Studio, Friday 27th May 9:30pm, Sunday 29th May 4pm and Monday 30th May 7:30pm.

Oh and anyone on here get stuff in?

Yeah, got a sketch in.

Right. So this wasn't actually an extended deadline as a different show. So I missed the first opportunity to get binned then. Thought I was being sensible by giving myself maximum polishing time and trying to select the best few to send. Bugger.

Like I say only going on what I've got on the nice rejection e-mails back from them. May not all be 100% correct!

Congrats Dan - might go along so what sketch(es) did you get accepted?

Thanks Stephen

It was a Bond-based follow-up to a sketch they'd written that led on from me writing Uncharismatic James Bond and More Uncharismatic James Bond that they liked but couldn't stage. If any of that makes any sense...

The May shows are going ahead as planned at The Leicester Square Theatre - Basement Studio, Friday 27th May 9:30pm, Sunday 29th May 4pm and Monday 30th May 7:30pm, so I guess the 'extension' is for the following show. I can't go this time as I'm away but will go to the next one.
