Benazir Bhutto assassinated

Well doesn't that just prove what a **** country she was living in. She knew the dangers but still came back. And they think that killing someone you disagree with is acceptable? I bet there's loads in Britain who are celebrating.

I know this is nothing to do with comedy but it just makes you despair.

I was wondering how long it'd take for there to be a thread on this!

Who?

Ignorance is bliss...

This is very heavy a topic for a comedy forum!

Ignorance is great until the problems are right on your doorstep...

of course, why should any of us give a shit about Benazir Bhutto's death, it's not like we genuinely care about what's going on in Pakistan?

But of course, don't the media just love to sensationalise a story like this, and sweep us up along the way?

So long as we are living comfortable lives, all hell can break loose in Pakistan and the chattering classes will have something new to talk about other than Diana or Madeline McCann. That's what the world is to us now; just an image on the telly.

Sorry - I'm not feeling very well. Man-flu!

Oh and welcome Cecil. What a strange thread to introduce yourself on.

Well it is the general forum. ;)

And welcome to Cecil indeed. You're probably right, but I'm too busy watching TV to ponder further at present. ;)

oh and I'd like to add to it, in reference to comedy and why I think it's genuinely a lost cause at the present time.

A couple of years ago you'd have shows which would discuss stuff which is now taboo, and now completely unexplored by the TV comedy scene. It's like they're all afraid of the world around them, and would rather disappear into a world of blissful ignorance, dealing with small, irrelevant issues and essentially all just trying to pursue mainstream success to the cost of originality, and more importantly, quality.

I believe that there has never been a better time to use comedy as a way of confronting things which others clearly don't want to talk about, or simply don't care about.

Haven't you seen Little Britain?

What about a sitcom about suicide bombers? Really useless ones because they keep surviving or lose bits of their bodies.

That made me laugh and now I feel guilty!
