Doctor Who... Page 694

I see you have not addressed the important question of the - Diddly Did Diddly Did - Pugwash and Who themes Matthew?? :)

My kids, who really used to enjoy the show, don't bother watching it anymore because it doesn't have David Tennant in it, who was "the best Doctor Who". Matt Smith apparently "can't do expressions" and is "boring".

I hope you find these opinions useful in shaping your continuing debate.

I have reported a similar issue in the Riley household.

And didn't Lily Allen look a lot taller!

You are kidding, aren't you Marc?

As was the other Moffatt historical, The Empty Child.

But there have been some woeful historicals too. Agatha Christie and Shakespeare spring to mind.

Just picking this at random because of the mention of historicals. I'm sure those more devoted to the history and mythology of Who will know for sure but weren't pretty much all the Hartnell and much of the Troughton era spent in historicals because it was part of the aim of the programme - to teach history as well as entertain.

And finally, a friend has a thought on Amy's baby, which we may or may have covered in these posts. It goes like this 'Amy has a girl, whom she names River.'

I don't remember hearing that anywhere.

I agree some plain old historicaln would be aces.

Certainly the Van Gough was rdiculously by that stupif oafish parrot monster thing.

I still think this one was nice, it was simple stragihtforward story. The Dr didn't have all the answers, the mystery was mysertious. And the relationship with the captain, about a captain being a captain.

It was a strong B and certainly worth rewatching.

Oops, another historical one I liked. Turns out me saying I disliked most of them wasn't tue at all!

I liked that one in retrospect a lot, but aaaggghhh! A lovely quiet story about the madness of genius and the tragedy of the Dr never being able to change anything real.

Just had that stupid scifi trope stuck in it.

With a helpful phone number at the end for anybody effected by the issues to ring.

Boo ya sucks!

They do that if someone gets a splinter on a DIY show these days.

Haven't watched the newest yet...can't seem to get everyone awake from naps at the same time so we can watch it together.

Regarding Tim's earlier comment, my kids don't enjoy this new doctor as much as David Tennant. I imagine it has something to do with the Converse sneakers (they all have them) and my younger two find Matt Smith's face scary.

Your kids will have to keep an eye out for the photos of my friends and I invading a park all dressed as DW characters for my birthday. :P

Not a bad plot, but the execution was pedestrian, not helped by a miscast Hugh Bonneville. Poor direction and editing managed the odd trick of making it feel rushed while full of longeurs. No space for character development to make us care about Boneville and the brat, and unless I blinked Lee Ross's comeuppance ended on the editing room floor, but we still get five minutes of non-suspense as Rory is revived to the strains of swirling orchestral chords. She's saved him! Who would have thought?!

And the crowbarring in of series long story arc stuff is just intrusive and annoying.

That siren music scared the life out of me

Have now read a few reviews in reputable broadsheets - and the Graun. They also spotted the ignored pirate but did say he re-appeared on the spaceship at the end. The reviewers put it down to extremely bad editing rather than sloppy writing...

I might have mentioned same as we watched.... much as beginning of the new series. Thank goodness for the music so we know it is dramatic stuff we are watching.

The way some of you old farts are over-analysing the latest ep is beginning to make fanboys like Stott look like the hippest guys in the room.
