Lee Evans...What's the fuss?

I appreciate that different people have different senses of humour but I just don't understand how a standup like Lee Evans is so populour.
When I watch him all I see is a man who ruins some clever observations by running around, pulling stupid faces and trying too hard to derive humour away from dialogue and into performance. It's the kind of things I found funny when I was in primary school. I know a lot of comedy is in the delivery but all of it? Am I just a humourless freak or does anybody agree?

He's very funny and dark in Funnybones

F**k knows.

I appreciate how people have different tastes but why do people like bananas? I appreciate people like different sorts of music but why do people like Jazz. I appreciate people like different hair colours but why do people like blondes. I appreciate people should be allowed to vote but why do people like conservatives. It's a rum do fair enough.

I like Lee Evans. I also like the Conservatives. Really don't like bananas though.

Bananas aren't very conservative, are they?

One funny, one not.

Which is which ?

:)

No, those wonky bastards!

I think Brussels is due to resolve the banana issue by 2012. It will be good to get some guidance.

When I first saw him, *all* he did was things like 'pull stupid faces' with the addition of rubber bands, and it was unforgettably hilarious. His more recent stuff is far less interesting, and for me, I would prefer it if he stopped doing the 'clever observations' and concentrated on the very elements which you feel detract from the act.

I'm actually seeing Lee Evans tonight doing a "work-in-progress" show in Stockton - something which I find amazing, because the venue in which he is performing (the Stockton ARC) is not exactly the biggest. I'm worried that the small size of the venue might limit him because he is normally so energetic on stage. Then again, perhaps the biggest worry is drowning from his sweat in such a small space.

Enjoy, Ian! Try and get him to drop us an e-mail or something. ;)

I'll doubt I'll be able to talk to him personally. In terms of contacting him there is a Lee Evans News Twitter fee - @LeeEvansNews - which might be useful.

Some of his early shows are pretty poor.

He looks petrified with nerves for a start, which probably didn't help.

Later on his improved material and confidence on stage makes for far better shows.

Lee Evans is one unfunny performer, by any standards. He's all shadow and no f**king body, like Eddie Izzard.
