Because of this I've been listening to Jacques Brel for the the last half hour. Didn't know he wrote 'In the Port of Amsterdam' I'm somewhat ashamed to admit. A brilliant performer, and though many of his songs have been translated, the translations are often a but, well, rapy really. Scott Walker's 'Jacky' and most versions of 'In the Port of Amsterdam' being notable exceptions.
