Same here. General consensus on the dress amongst my friends is that it was ok, she had a lot of protocol to observe so was a good compormise, no-one liked the lace, but the train amd tiaras got the thumbs up. And we all agree that the bridesmaids dress was stunning.
It was definitely better than Dianas crumpled meringue.
Yes, it was a good compromise. I liked the Grace Kelly style. As for Diana's frock, she looked swamped in it.

Diana's dress was rubbish, the only good thing about it was the mega long train - which is quite a cool idea.
I liked the lace on Kate's dress, I agree that she probably chose it because it couldn't possibly offend anyone, but it also looked amazing.
Maybe the third kiss was a touch too far.
I only glimpsed at the thing but how can anyone not like lace? I ask. I speak as a man 
and we men find lace incredibly sexy and all that. And elegant.
