There's a mentally deranged chaffinch at the back of our house. It spent all day yesterday throwing itself at various windows and it's back today. If it's on the window ledge and you go close, it doesn't fly away - just sits there looking at you.

It would have to be able to fly - the bird goes right to the top of the house some of the time. However it's probably going to starve to death because it never goes away to find food.
Throw out some little pieces of bread.
The window cleaner's here so the bird has disappeared - no doubt temporarily.
