I started writing about 6 months ago when I wrote a sitcom episode and I would say that I've been sketch writing for just over 3 months now.
At first I was aiming to get a sketch sold within my first year. However, I now know how few opportunities there are for sketches, so I'm going to give myself a little longer for that - 2 to 3 years.
Sketches about a year.
Song lyrics and music ...far longer!
I think I have more chance of selling the songs than the sketches. And there is not much chance of that!
since june the 8th o7 for comedy. Short stories about 8 years.

i sent my first sitcom pilot off in 1999.
i had my first sketch used in 2006.

Did you do anything to celebrate your aniversary?
Writing forever.
Writing 'seriously' (ie to get published) since about 2000.
Attempting to write comedy for about a year and a half. Might be giving it up soon.
But I have found that when I write straight now, I feel more comfortable putting a bit of humour in. Which is great. I think I was a bit dry before.

We filmed a sketch called "Mimefield/Feral Businessmen" and invited some of our networking pals off 4laughs and also Ellie & Croydesponge off BSG - and they came and had a nice day I think.. We invited The Slaggs too but they were busy on the filming date.. maybe another time?

Frankie - you and the slaggs should have a party were you have to go as one of your characters. The looks you get down the pub would be priceless!

I've messed around with sitcom ideas for quite some time now, but only been writing seriously for just over two years.

I'm like that too. I know my stuff is not out and out funny but I like adding humour to a drama. That's why it's probably best to write with someone who complements you.
Oh and short stories and songwords since about 1980 with comedy only in the last 5 years or so - since Last Laugh.
Now I think about it, the first writing I did was a comedy play at primary school in the '70's.
Then song lyrics and sketches for 6th form revue in the early '80's.
Bit of a break then a comedy manuscript for a novel and several feature screenplays in the 1990's.
Couple of sitcom scripts in the last two years.
At least I'm not a quitter.
