I may need to watch it again, as it didn't grab me first time around.
I enjoyed Magicians though, probably because I was expecting it to be awful.

To be fair, most of us probably aren't in the target age range; but then I have the mind of a child, so I could enjoy the sugar fizz and pop and flashy lights.

If children or youth had liked it it would have done well financially.

Yes Chip. A lot of films, for whatever reason, don't get the audience they deserve. Kids not going to see it does not mean they won't like it if they see it. Or that they will like it. For whatever reason, it never got on a lot of peoples radars.
It not doing well at the box office is not the same thing as it being a failure; other than in financial terms, obviously. No one went to see The Thing either, or many other crackers you could mention.
Plus they churn out so many so so films these days, then you don't stand a chance unless you post on the "I'm about to see" thread

I think it did get the audience and reviews it deserved. I like Edgar Wright but at times his work is in danger of becoming all style and no substance.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World's combined US/UK box office almost made up the budget per IMDB, so it'll surely be in the black with DVD/Netflix/Cable TV sales.

It's already percieved as a turkey so whether it scrapes its money back is irrelevant. Waterworld (which I liked) finally made it's money back but will still forever be known as a massive Kevin-Costner-career-sinking failure.

I really don't think it's being looked upon as a Waterwold style turkey; plus it got mainly very good reviews. It was a tough sell in many ways, and it didn't find the audience it deserved, that's all. I didn't realise you were all about the money, Chip!
And review-wise, if you look at Rotten Tomatoes collation of over 200 professional reviews, it comes out at 81%; which is not too shabby.

I'm not all about the money. My favourite film of all time is King of Comedy, which was box office death and, staggeringly, got a lot of bad reviews when it was first released. But Scott Pilgrim's no Rupert Pupkin!

I can kind of see why it bombed in 1982. Mostly because it was probably not the movie people would have expected from Scorsese/De Niro. It is an almost-flawless piece of brilliance, however, and still one of De Niro's best performances. Plus, it's the only movie in which Jerry Lewis is in any way watchable.
Jerry Lewis is ok in Funny Bones too...

The funny bit in Funny Bones - 'POLICEMAN: It's all getting a bit French - and I don't like it.'
There. For those of you who haven't seen the movie, I hope I've saved you some time and trouble.
Yes its not a Funny Film... its a weird film. Jerry Lewis, Freddie parotfaced Davis.....its got to be weird.

King of Comedy, De Niro? Don't tell me he was actually funny in it? All these unfunny performances in comedies he's been doing I was convinced he couldn't be funny...
