Stephen Chow should get a mention, his comedy films are the best I've found from Asia. Most of his movies are pretty good, especially if his side kick Ng Man-Tat is in it. In my mind he has two "best in their genre" movies in any language... Shaolin Soccer is the best sports comedy and God of Cookery is the best cooking comedy.
Best comedy not in English Page 3
I've come across a manga/anime which might surprise some people, especially given a recent news story.
One thing you would not expect from the Japanese is to make fun about the war - as the elves at QI will tell you. Turns out they are.
The manga Hetalia: Axis Powers is an allegorical interpretation of the events around World War Two. The characters are stereotyped anthropomorphic representations of countries, the main character being cowardly "loveable loser" North Italy.
The series certainly seems popular in Japan. A fourth season of the anime version is due to be shown later in the year.
I was gonna write 'Rab C Nesbitt', but too late: it appears on page one.
Found most of the first series of 'Turkish for Beginners' subtitled here, if anyone is interested.
Looks like the next few episodes aren't done yet.
Thanks though, will check it out properly later.
I really like "Absolument Fabueux" - the French "Absolutely Fabulous". It was panned, but I enjoyed it. Funny thing - it had not subtitles but I could understand a lot of it a) Because of my rudimantary knowledge of French b) because of my ridiculous knowledge of "Absolutely Fabulous".
This is "Jiskefet" from Holland.
It's called 'english sports' so I'm sure you can all relate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0jPaTmWF5I
Some more great scenes (tried to pick them without to much Dutch in there).

If you guys like it I will dig around for some more.
I almost forgot 'Kabouter Wesley' or Gnome Wesley.
Found some subtitled episodes.
Basically they are really short (and really funny) crudely drawn absurdist cartoons about an angry gnome. It's from Belgium to.
Here are some clips with english subs.

One of my favourites is the Danish 'version' of Curb Your Enthusiasm; Klovn (Clown). The Danes do have a nice style of humour, and although is very much based on Curb, when a show is as good as Curb in the first place, you can't really do too much wrong lol.
I think there is even a South African Curb based show, but can't remember the name.
I've just learned of an Icelandic comedy series which is to be shown on BBC Four starting next week. Called The Night Shift, it is about three men working at a petrol station in Reykjavik. It begins with a double bill at 22.00 on 9th May.

Subtitled or dubbed?
I honestly can't recall. My niece is heavily into Manga 'cosplay' so I was more interested in the pictures of teenage girls in uniform she was showing me...

That's a shame because most of the characters in Hetalia are male. There are only a few female ones such as Hungary, Ukraine and Belarus.
The androgynous nature of Japanese teen culture means that in cosplay girls spend a lot of time dressed as boys.
