I watched Magicians as it was on telly the other night.
It was alright. Enjoyable enough and relatively amusing but certainly not hilarious or brilliant.
I thought Peter Capaldi's performance stole the show really.

Hot Fuzz was pretty good at first, but the last half hour was pretty terrible and stupid from what I can remember.
I thought Magicians was better, the pick of the two.
Hot Fuzz was definitely far superior a film to Magicians. Which is probably why everyone involved in the former now make films in America, and those in the latter, don't.
Yeah, that and Shaun of the Dead! Hot Fuzz would probably do a better job of appealing to the lowest common denominator, though I haven't seen them in a while.

I think they both had a lot to do with it; Fuzz proved it wasn't a fluke, but SOTD obviously kicked the door wide open.

A better job than Magicians, hence why Simon Pegg's a film star now.
Unless you think films about magicians are more fashionable than action films about cops.
Quote: Griff @ April 18 2011, 10:33 PM BSTI remember noticing with these films that Magicians and Hot Fuzz both did the same joke at one point.
Was it something to do with Going & Ogling?
I can't say I've ever been a fan of Pegg, but Hot Fuzz made me chuckle- probably due more to Frost.
Magicians is my kind of film. I don't watch many as I've not got the patience to sit still for 2 hours watching something I'm barely interested in, but this one kept my attention throughout.

If Edgar Wright pisses away more studio money on films that die at the box office like Scott Pilgrim then he'll be back here directing episodes of Midsomer Murders.

He didn't piss it away, he spent the money the studio wanted to give the project. The film itself is a cracker, and though it may not have set the world alight at the pictures (Which baffles me, the trailer and posters were terrific) it will undoubtedly become one of those films that does really well on DVD and Blu-ray and have a long afterlife.

It'll do okay on DVD. Let's not get silly thinking it's some overlooked classic.

Nothing silly about it, it's a great movie. It may not be Citizen Kane, but it's terrific fun, and was certainly overlooked by many on its release.
I really didn't like it.
You can't like everything.
