Interesting Purchases

Think of this as a spin-off to the "DVD Bargains" thread. This thread is devoted to any kind of comedy purchase, whether it be a DVD/video/audio/book etc. which you think is of interest.

To kick things off, I've just found this in a branch of "Aged UK" this morning: Dad's Army - The Defence of a Front Line English Village. It is a book chronicling some of the stories from the series, supposedly written by Arthur Wilson M.A., nephew of Sergeant Wilson. Marked originally at £6.99, I got it for £2.99. One thing I've already learned from it - Walmington-on-Sea is in Sussex.

Without wishing to sound dismissive, they do often talk of the nearby Eastbourne platoon, do they not? So I always thought it was obvious it was supposed to be set in Sussex?

I believe they also talk of a Westgate platoon, which is in Kent.

Ah, I don't recall that. North coast of Kent too, I see.

I think you are confusing it with Eastgate.

Captain Square led the fictional Eastgate Platoon.

Westgate is the real place.

Captain Mainwaring's hat had the badge of the horse from the Kent coat of arms. If it had been Sussex it would have been a sword.

Similar to the ones for Essex and Middlesex.
