REM's "(This one goes out to) The one I love" is not about a relationship with a cyclops or in fact a nice "love song" at all, in fact it's really quite bitter calling his ex "a simple prop to occupy my time".
Oh! So that's what that song was about. Page 2
I play guitar and so buy sheet music or download it from the internet.
It is often only then when the lyrics are in front of me do I see that they mean something entirely different or don't mean anything at all.
Some of my favourites are T Rex or Marc Bolan. Not a single song makes one ounce of sense - but they are great songs.
ie; Did you ever see a woman coming out of New York city with a frog in her hand.
I did, don't you know
and don't it show ]

Life is the same and it always will be easy as picking foxes from a tree.
How about this fro Yes:
A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace,
And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace,
And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar,
Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the hour.
And assessing points to nowhere, leading ev'ry single one.
?
And Your Bird Can sing is apparently a dig at Mick Jagger who was always boasting about how talented his bird, Marianne Faithful, was.
Boy, was she a looker in the 60s!
See.
She was also a fantastic singer with some mental lyrics too.

Bitterly ironic when you consider John and Paul married 2 tone deaf munters who insisted on singing on their albums
"St Elmo's Fire", from the 80s movie, is about a guy in a wheelchair raising money for charity. Only discovered that recently.
"Pretty In Pink", from the other 80s movie, appears to be about a transvestive who dies in a car crash. Took me a while to figure that out.
And "You're So Vain" is about me.

Yeah, true.
