some training for people in political and democratic theory.

Hmmm... yes, this idea worked brilliantly in Soviet Russia and Mao's China... Errr

Do we vote for or against AV using first past the post or AV? ;)

You've proved the need for the training.

Liberal wankers who want to give people the freedom not to vote - or even not to know anything about voting, consign us to a tyranny every bit as terrible as the Soviet or Maoist one since following the election they ignored there WILL be a government and they will have to abide by the laws they wanted to not know anything about. The problem is also that their not votes influenced the government that we all got, so their freedom is bought at the cost of OUR rights.

Compulsory voting only sounds tyrannical if you believe that you can do what you want. In fact our society is hugely proscriptive. You have to eat, drink, walk, drive, live, talk and behave in a thin range of ways. Step outside of them and you will soon be sanctioned. You already know this.

And I thought our elections were annoying.

Your elections are great because US politicians are such mentals.

Palin V Obama

Much fun.

Might be Newt.

Oh please. No. Not the Moose woman.

I doubt Palin will run but she'd probably make a decent president. I figure one of the young rising stars will get the Republican nod. As long as he/she promises to cut government spending it shouldn't be too hard to unseat Obama.

So, no Romney either?

I think the people want fresh blood. Maybe someone like Pawlenty.

Interesting. Not a name that has has any mentions this side of the Pond. But I'm sure that by the time summer rolls around, we'll be as sick of it as you guys.

I'm sure the press is hoping for Gingrich or Palin because they have years of experience in smearing them. I'd love to see General Petraeus run; he'd run away with the election.

I don't know how you cope in a country where evil liberals smear and denigrate honest, intelligent and reasonable Americans like Palin just so they can put communist Muslim Kenyans in the White House.

I worked in the newsroom of a daily newspaper for many years and the people who were doing the smearing were my friends. All in all they reported the news well but would privately admit that they coloured the coverage to accentuate their views on politics. Views which were universally Democratic and liberal, I needn't bother adding.
