British Comedy Guide

The Comedy PlayShop

Hello.

I'm launching a venture called "Comedy PlayShop" in London where fledgling writers and comedians can workshop ideas during the day, then have a go at performing the new and reworked material to an empathetic audience in the evening. The plan would be to have each showcase show opened and MC'd by a guest professional comic already on the circuit.

If you are interested in further information, please email me at comedyplayshop@hotmail.co.uk

I would also be ever so grateful if you could answer a few questions so I can make sure Comedy PlayShop caters for everyone

I have set up a survey that you can fill out here:

Thanks so much for your time.

Hello!

Each month we are offering new and aspiring comics a chance to workshop their funny ideas with professional comedians prior to performing in front of a small empathetic crowd.

We don't believe that people need to be taught what is funny. Everyone has a different sense of humour and that is what makes comedy alive and interesting. Instead, we offer a chance to build on ideas by discussing them with experienced comedians who will offer advice and guidance in finding an indervidual style.
Each month we have a guest comedian who will run a 2-hour workshop on a Sunday afternoon. They will be sharing their experience with tips and advice for the group whilst helping build on-stage personas and confidence in developing original material.
After an hour or two to revise and rehearse, workshoppies will meet our second guest comedian who will be compering the show in the evening. The compère will ensure that the crowd are warmed up and ready to go.
We are deliberately running the workshop on a Sunday to encourage discerning audience members who are eager to see new and experimental comedy. Also, as part of the£15 workshop fee, we will give 5 x £1 off tokens to share amongst friends who want to come and support the new acts.

As this is a new and experimental material night, we also have a few open slots for regularly gigging comics who want to try out fresh material.

We hope that by running this monthly and by having different professional comedians working closely with new acts, the Comedy PlayShop will build a friendly community of new and interesting comedians.
