Usually enjoy Jewish humour, but this is a very un-funny family, a totally boring lot. Sorry, but not entertaining.
Friday Night Dinner - Series 1 Page 15
I watched the first couple of episodes, but didn't feel as though it was worth keeping on with it.
That last episode actually felt a lot better. There was more of a traditional sitcom set-up and actually seemed to have more plot going on. I laughed quite a bit at some one-liners but there's just that pizazz missing.
For this 'comedy genius' reputation that Robert Popper has, I expected this show to be better than it is.
I agree that the squeaky meat line was excellent though.

Yup yup yup.
Does Popper have a comedy genius reputation? I mean Look Around You was fun, but a minor gem at most.
Quote: Griff @ April 3 2011, 9:25 PM BSTHe's script edited Peep Show, The Inbetweeners, The IT Crowd and even worked on South Park. They're pretty much the best comedy shows around.
Ah, editing other peoples scripts, the mark of a true comedy genius.

He's clearly talented, but better described as a comedy technician. Sparky in the back room.
This programme is as bald as Duncan Goodhew. Too little humour; a wasted opportunity.
Well he's done a few different roles on shows well; this is a good thing. And a script editor can often have quite a hand in the way a script turns out, it can be more than just saying 'put more jokes on page twelve and make the end a bit quicker'.
I enjoy it (and my mum bloody loves it). It'll never be in my top 10 shows, but I'll certainly be watching series 2.

Like I say, a good technician. This is a good thing.
"Aren't you going to hang him?" is an immortal quote I think of when watching dross such as FND. It helps me get through the tough times. Why do I watch it then? Complete disbelief at what I'm seeing and hearing...'surely I'm missing something'...but I don't think so.
It's just not for you!
Why make it so melodramatic?
True. Lights, Camera, Action! But, what is life without a little drama? Almost as bad as life without 'Comedy.'

Well, he's written two shows I like now, which makes him a 'good writer' in my sorry eyes.
I'd probably say all rounder as opposed to technian. He's Ian Botham.
