Anyone know how to fix an in/out error on an external hard drive? I think I did a bad when I unplugged it without ejecting the disk because the program/OS had crashed. Mac btw. Now it won't recognise it, can't read or write to it.

Quote: DaButt @ March 30 2011, 2:09 PM BSTThis appears to be free but runs from the command line so you might need to read the documentation:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
Also, you might want to stop using the Mac completely. The files are at risk of being overwritten and won't remain intact for long.
Thanks Dabutt, I did stop using it straight away, but as I thought there was no chance of getting it back, plus my employers may not be too happy with me not working while I try to recover stuff I shouldn't be working on at work.
I think I may have *found* a way round it though.

I assume you've tried the various First Aid repairs in Disk Utility?

Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.

That happened to me once. The good thing was that First Aid mounted the drive (sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't, it seemed sort of random) so that I could copy the files to another external drive.
All this is a good reminder to back up important files frequently. OS X makes this easy to do.
I'm unhappy with the way the address bar looks after the new Firefox update. It now takes up more vertical room than it used to. How to get it back to the old style?
I've seen there are a number of bits of software that make it easy to create DVD's and most importantly add a menu.
But is there one you would recommend?
Depends what you want from it , and what you input source is I suppose. I've used Nero and TMPEGEnc among others in the past for various results.

I use Cyberlink Power Producer, because it was one of the first available at low cost, but I think that several of the newer ones might be better (in the sense that they have more menu features).
Microsoft does some freebies for that now I think. Certainly one for turning photos into DVD slide shows.
How the flamin' heck do you save a programme to your BBC iPlayer thing to allow you save it for later viewing? I'm trying to save a radio show which only has 2 days left on the Radio 4 Extra site.
I know you can do it because I saved episodes from The Great Outdoors for a week or two.
I've tried updating the iPlayer but it never successfully completes the installation.
Ta v. much.
When I say 'iPlayer thing' I mean my iPlayer desktop.
On the online iPlayer page I have 7 stored shows, yet on the desktop it tells me I have none.
No idea
I save radio programs onto my iPod using the TuneIn Radio app ifthat's any help!
Ah....I don't have an iPad/Pod/Phone.
