People who dislike Michael Barrymore = ignorant Page 5

I think it's fair to say that a swimming pool of a house in Essex belonging to a TV celebrity of dubious quality and negligable talent, used for gay parties, one of which hits the headlines for having a young man floating dead in it on a Sunday morning, is indeed vulgar. I see no problem with saying it.

The pool look OK in this shot. Apart from the corpse, of course.

Oh dear, the sluice gates have opened, I see. Vugarity, sir, is not something you should take such joyous pride in. Good morning.

Oh I always take Pride in vulgarity, sir, always. I'm well known for knocking in the sluice gates.

Then you'd have been quite at home at Barrymore's pool party, I suggest.

Barrymore's gay pool party.

No muff diving.

Doing lengths was encouraged, though.

(Almost works)

(Lengths as in cocks. Cock lengths)

(It doesn't work)

Indeed. But I afforded John more respect than suggesting he was thus afflicted.

Thank you, darling. ;)

I know it was a different time but really, was this acceptable in the 80s?

Oh dear.

Look at how dumb, modern audiences don't appreciate Barrymore in a recent interview he did on some Irish show:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o71L-399_Vg

Sure, they laughed, but the atmosphere seemed uncomfortable and no one really seemed to enjoy his humour. A far cry from his 90s heyday.

I think people in general are so conditioned to enjoy stupid programmes like Ant and Dec's Takeaway etc that they literally can't appreciate genuine comedy acts like Barrymore. They're ignorant!

Who agrees?

I'm ancient so I'm certainly not a member of this "modern audience" you mentioned. But I watched that interview and cringed so much I almost imploded. Barrymore's planning a Blackpool end-of-pier show and that's where he should stay in my opinion.

There are always going to be people who like him and he will get audiences in theatres but please God don't let this man back on our TV screens. He's a comedy relic, like Freddie Starr or Timmy Mallet. "Wacky" worked back then, now it's just embarrassing, for me, anyway.

But that's the point. We all have our personal tastes and you can't call people ignorant for not liking a particular comedian.

EDIT:

Ah. I've just noticed you've created more threads about the merits of Jim Davidson and Matthew Kelly.

Or, possibly, under it. Wearing special concrete clown shoes.

Six pages, nice haul :)

Interesting documentary about Stuart Lubbock's death.
