Wondering how you fellow writers would feel about the situation I have at the moment. I have a few characters that I want to write for, but don't have a situation for them just yet. I have one idea that I keep coming back to as a situation, but I don't know whether to just write through it i.e. write the situation that I keep coming back to, or wait until I find the situation that I'm 100% happy with.

so just get wwriting, get to know your characters
Yeah that's kind of what I thought. Unfortunately my original idea was too close to what is now Friday Night Dinner.

Stick it down on paper and get to know them. As you start thinking about characters a premise may present itself.

Yes - and you don't have to start at the beginning. You can do your bit then work backwards, forwards or even sideways.

This is true.
Agree with the above, had a set of characters I've loved for YEARS before I finally found the right story for them, but writing a couple of wrong ones has made things much easier now that I'm on (I hope!) the right track at last!
