Recording digital TV

I would like to be able to do this.
Can anyone suggest a machine that might achieve my dream?
I have heard tell of a Sky+ box but I don't want to sign up to Sky.

I'm pretty sure there are normal digi boxes with that function now.

I record digital (Freeview) all the time but don't have any special equipment. I guess you've got a Freeview box or something like that?, that's all you need...

Simply put the scart lead from the Freeview box into the back of your VCR. Then select the AUX channel on the VCR and press record (or set a record timer).

The only problem with this setup is, to watch normal TV, you might have to have your VCR turned on and the TV set to the video channel (there are ways around this but I won't complicate things by explaining here)

sadly i don't have a vcr any more.
i was thinking of buying a box that records tv. is there one which is better and easier than the rest? people who have skyplus rave about it. literally.

What you’re looking for is a PVR (personal video recorded) basically you recorded on to a hard drive which is built in to the box, the good thing about PVR is that you can record two channels at the same time while watching a recording back and setting the timer is easy via the EPG (electronic program guide).

If however you what to keep the recording then your need a DVD recorder with a built in digital tuner (or a combined PVR/DVD recorder) or as I have fit a freeview or Digi Sat card to your PC then burn to DVD.

I hate reading instructions. In all the 20+ years I've been using video recorders, I've always left it to someone else, to sort out programming them, and recording on them.

Didn't read a word of this too busy looking at your avatar :) *starts day dreaming*

You can buy it in your local shop, the price is about £70.00.

If you can afford it, get a Humax PVR, they're apparently the best.

I am thinking about getting sky+.

Johnny - TopUp TV Anytime box. I think Tesco are doing them for about £60 at the moment. I highly recommend it.

And/or a Freeview enabled DVD recorder.

DVD Recorders are fiddely if you're not good with that kinda stuff. PVR is the way to go for the err "average" user.

DVD recorders are no more fiddly than a PVR. The only difference is that you have to put a blank/formatted disc in the drive. And it's much easier to keep a DVD recording than a PVR one!

I think it's because my DVD Recorder hasn't got Freeview built-in, so I have to set the timer, which sucks. But I still prefer my HDD, no messing about with discs.

Still got to delete stuff from the HDD though, which is no more hassle than "format"! :P
