Film better than the book? Page 4

Agree that the Hobbit a cracking yarn and looking forward to what Jackson will make of it. Incidentally it's just started shooting this very day with a release for part one in 2012 sometime

He's not directing it, is he? I thought it was someone else.

The only good bug is a dead bug!

But in the film it was done with a satirical wink. ;)

Gollum is a good character, as is Gandalf.

But my word the rest are turgid. The films, sorry I never got the appeal.

There's only so many illegal immigrants, I mean orcs I can enjoy being eviserated.

(did you know the BNP and C18 use LOTR movies as propaganda tools).

Ok fairs fair though in both film and book I do love all the stuff set in the Shire. I suppose I could go for a sort of Hobbit based version of the Archers.

There's nothing more boring than literally non-stop action. See also the last two Pirates Of The Caribbean movies.

I can't think of any more different films than the Bourne movies and the Pirates ones.

I agree, if it's just action-action-action, it is boring, but I think there's far more to the Bourne movies than that. As a matter of interest, what action movies have you enjoyed?

Not 100% sure. I thought that actually he wasn't and that he had some kind of Exec Producer gig going on, but according to the Beeb news site today it refers to him as Director (though it might be just a reference to his job in general)

Yeah, I think he's just producing. And unfortunately Guillermo Del Torro isn't directing anymore either.

Bourne is shit.

Good action movies, Die Hard, Termiantor 2, You Only Live Twice, Die Hard 2, Executive Decision, The President's cock is missing, Fort Apache the Bronx, Top Gun,

Having recently seen Of Gods and Men I am inclined to take issue with that. Two hours of monks chanting and washing their smalls shades it.

Those Rings movies were dull. Lots of walking. I can only imagine how boring the books must be.

No, the Bourne movies are a lot of fun.

Yes I love all the Shire stuff. In the first movie they caught it perfectly, I thought.

They did other than Bilbo's hole was to big for my liking

(open goal there)

But yeh it was good.

Gandalf the Grey is marvellous. I'm less keen on Gandalf the White. (Another reason to look forward to the Hobbit.) In the same way, I prefer Strider to Aragorn.

Yes I love all the Shire stuff. In the first movie they caught it perfectly, I thought.

Agree with that. I had the same opinion when reading the book. Gandalf the White was somehow colder and less likeable. A bit kind of 'up himself'

The Shire stuff in the films was bang on.

Agree with sooty about LOTR. I just don't get either book or films to be honest. They were okay for a watch-once (though way too long) but wouldnt watch or red again.

Bourne, however, is f**king awesome! Better than any Bond, including Casino Royale (the best Bond film). Supremacy is the bee's knees, but it doesn't make any sense without having seen the first, as my confused wife will attest to.

If you don't like it though, never watch Taken with Liam Neeson. That was the ultimate in action movie fodder when I saw it last week. Most enjoyable!

Dan

There are very contemporary action films I like, the CGI has taken all the pressure off the script.

Hmm 3 more great action pics; Who Dares Wins, Con Air and The Rock.

The Rock is just f**king sublime.

Bourne is shit.

You literally know nothing about anything!

Quote: Griff @ March 21 2011, 6:43 PM GMT

That's a good question. I guess I don't like them much. Although I can't get enough of 24.

*thinks*

I quite liked Con Air and The Rock.

Flipping heck hadn't read that when I posted!

The original Die Hard is a great action film; Fort Apache the Bronx is a great film, but not an action film per se. The others are tedious. Under Siege however...
