Yeah, they only have a disk manager for Windows. I think the Mac version is just diagnostics. Whatever it is, it's not detecting my drive.
Don't own a Mac, but presumably you've tried a different USB connector cable and a different USB port just to eliminate those being faulty? Also have you a different PC to try it on? Sorry if I'm 'statin' the bleedin obvious'
Goddamit I have the Vista Security 2011 malware virus. Fake security warnings popping up all over the place telling me I'm infected with Christ knows how many trojans etc. I'm not of course, the warnings are designed to spook me - the malware keeps directing me to a pay site to unlock the removal tools (which don't exist apparently).
I got this virus last year and had to do a full clean OS install. BASTARDS!!!
Anyone got any bright ideas? By the way if I do have to do a clean install I'd probably like to install Windows 7 instead of this shitty Vista that I've been lumbered with for the last few years, just in case anyone knows where I can get hold of a copy.
Install Spybot, and Avast anti virus. That's what I use never had anything more serious the a couple of naughty cookies.
Also boot taks manager and stop all but you essential tasks, it's just in you processes somewhere so need to find it stop it then remove.

Cheers Gavin.I'll give that a go but reading up on this virus doesn't instill a lot of hope. It's a bitch.

Download and run Kasperky's Tdsskiller and follow the instructions. Once the software finishes and reboots your Google searches will work once again as they were intended.

Cheers Griff. I've had that Google hijack for ages. There's a workaround by copying the shortcut from the Google results but having run this software I've been able to search for "Art for Art's Sake" directly from the link.
I've got the ms removal tool mal on my work laptop. Oops. If you run in safe mode you should be able to get away with running an antivirus and then removing all files from the reg, proving you can find details of their location on the webs.

If you can, get a full copy of Win 7 rather than an Upgrade to Win7 from Vista, or even if you do get the Upgrade edition, do a clean install.
I did an upgrade for a friend a week or so ago onto what was supposed to be a clean install of Vista, so that she would have all the extras that came with the computer on Vista, but it turned out to be a long & tedious task. The Windows upgrade in place will not run unless Vista is up to SP1, so I had to patiently upgrade to SP1, plus a few other patches & then of course destroy that effort by installing Win7 over it.
Norton was a nightmare too, the old version was really clagging up the computer & the new version did not remove it properly. I had to get the Norton Removal tool, zap Norton completely, before installing the 2011 edition.

yeah, from what I've read that seems the only way to get rid of this bloody PC Herpes. Thing is I just know I'll fail so I'll probaly back up everything tomoz and just do a clean system install.
Wish me luck.
Hi. Does anyone know a way of recovering deleted files on a mac? I emptied the trash but need to get some files back. I found some software but it's about $100 to get the version that will recover. Is this the only solution. Any help would be much appreciated. I apologise in advance for having a mac.
This seems to be free. http://www.squidoo.com/recovertrashmac
Just installed it from the link and it works fine, hopefully it'll do what you want.
Thanks very much Nil. I shall try it.
Just clicked on link. I did download this earlier. It works very well. it found all the files, I could see them but when I went to recover them, not just find them, it told me to buy the full version to do it. Thanks though for trying Nil.
Oh, bugger. Maybe you can *find* a key to register it.
This appears to be free but runs from the command line so you might need to read the documentation:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
Also, you might want to stop using the Mac completely. The files are at risk of being overwritten and won't remain intact for long.
