I guess different people have different priorities. Yours seems to be 'being unique'. Most people who have the problem with the accent I'd guess have priorities like 'being understood'. ;)

Anyway, I hope you get lots of listens, as the donating idea is excellent. Shows the rest of these selfish sketch-filming losers right up.

Why do you *want* your character to be hard for listeners to understand?
That doesn't make much sense!

Wanting him to be a mockney makes sense, but I think that, coupled with the gravelly voice makes it impenetrable. Maybe he could be a more Guy Ritchie/Jamie Oliver style mockney? Drop the gravelly growl, but keep the mockney?

Of course I want him to be understood but like I said the majority of people who have listened haven't made an issue out of it but saying that I will attempt to growl slightly less in the next episode and see where that gets us. I have comprised and do listen to what you all say (a bit).

Yayy! :D

The main thing is James if one of you is doing an over the top non naturalistic intentionally phoney accent and the other is doing a naturalistic voice.. when they have a conversation the audience has no idea what they are listening to. You have to be consistent within the world you create or the willing suspension of disbelief is quickly shattered and your audience start reaching for the dial/ remote switch. If this a couple of college lads having a lark for Comic Relief then all's cool really. If you want critique on as if it were a real radio series then I guess it is a horse of a different paint job. EIther way well done on doing it and raising funds!
:)

Marc you've hit the nail on the head. At last I truly get the point about the voice. The comparison between the two characters is what the problem is and in those terms I agree. I should tone down slightly and Dan should tone up slightly. Thank you so much I really understand that point :D

I'm running a competition on Twitter and Facebook that I will donate £5 to Comic Relief right now if someone can tell me how many celebrities were referenced in the Back to Class episode and not just by name. I also want the names.

mockney accent not clear not funny and distractinf breaks any sense of naturalism

Not clear, at times maybe.
Not funny, I don't remember that being said :O

Angry

Quote: Nat Wicks @ March 11 2011, 4:13 PM GMT

I think the thing that is most jarring is that one character speaks normally and another is speaking like someone taking the mick out of an eastenders character. It just doesn't equate to realism and believability.

Although mine sounded meaner.

What you angry about Nat?

I disagree about Mark's voice I think it suits the character very well and is very funny :)

A shame some of you didn't enjoy the Tuffers phonecall but for me that was one of the funniest parts of the whole episode :)

The resistance to criticisim is like trying to carry water from a well in a seive.

Invest in a humility brand bucket.

That or listen to Ricky Buller and see how it differs to your version.

The frustrating thing is this episode is a big improvement on the original, it's actually quite enjoyable. But the niggles really hold it back and it shouldn't take you months to fix them.

:D You've got a lovely way with words.

Your right and I have said I will do something about both voices. So what are the niggles? The voice of Mark? What else?

What other niggles are there? We will work on them and come back even better than before :) thank you I appreciate all of the feedback and take on board everything you all say

Mainly the accent...

I think you also are still telling a little bit, the less charactes tell us what's happening and the more we see, the better.

With the accent go for the character, more than the background. Mockney is a bit of a cliche, maybe if he was a Brummie or from Exeter?
