Soap

Hi,

Did anyone else like Soap? I can remember it being on Channel 4 in the early 80s. I got the DVDs last year and I think it still stands up well. There are some great moments in it.

It doesn't seem to get a repeat.

Yes! https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/15803/

Ah! I am not alone!

Apart from in the fact that I didn't use the search box before posting.

:$

Confused? You will be.

My parents bought a VHS the size of a small bungalow and this (along with other such things like OTT) was one of the first things we would record. Oh I loved Soap, to anyone who claimed at the time that Americans didn't understand irony or surrealism or dark humour, exhibit A 'Soap' would pretty much destroy all arguments. Brilliant stuff.

I used to love Soap. Richard Mulligan was my fav actor in it.

"You want me to get that..?"

Don't forget the follow up, "Benson" - not as good though.

No, but a BCG thread about Soap does...

:)

Ah!

Still, a classic that could do with another showing.

Two bits spring to mind: Burt thinks he's invisible, and in one scene is talking to his wife from inside a cupboard and suddenly she thinks he's invisible too!

And the bit where Chuck is blindfolded and is guessing what Bob is holding in his hand. You think that the family are going to say how stupid he is, but they all can't believe how he does it! (Apart from Joey).

Great call, Clint. An astoundingly overlooked/underrated show.

:D Well remembered great times.

I loved this at the time. I've got a chance to buy the whole collection on eBay but I just get this worry that it probably hasn't dated well.

Recently finished the massive Bilko box-set and it was just as funny as I remember from the late 50s when it aired in the UK, and odd times I've watched it on the box previous.

Never watched Soap
