This looks like it could be really good. Is anyone else thinking about going?
London Comedy Writers' Festival 2011
Wow, that's expensive...£119 + a fee.
I'll only have traveled back from London on the 14th march so can't go.
I haven't really thought about the price because some kind, generous soul bought a ticket for me as a birthday present.

Really? The only kind of event baring any similarity to this is the Comedy Forum which is one day and over £500. For this type of event it is actually incredibly cheap and you get a Networking day thrown in too which is actually one of the most important aspects of any writers' festival.
It's a lot when you're a poor little pensioner LOL
Isn't this festival connected with Laughing Stock? If so, they're holding a festival in Salford in the autumn too
I may have got it mixed up with this

Nothing to do with writersroom. This is from the makers of the London Screenwriters' Festival. The speakers list is coming together: http://www.londoncomedywritersfestival.com/speakers/
What do you think?
The London Comedy Writers Festival comes from the same people who bought you the Screenwriters Festival last year. Sessions include...
PRODUCED! Writing the Successful Comedy Spec Script, Why You Need To Break Into Radio Comedy (and how to do it), British Film Comedy: Think Global, Write Local , Web Comedy: How You Can Reach A Global Audience Today, The Topical Sketch: Training Workshop, TV Comedy Drama: What the Broadcasters Want for this event and many more
Hope that helps.
Hello people. I've been talking to the organisers of this to find out more. Firstly, just to clarify and confirm, this isn't connected to the BBC festival in Salford in October (where some BBC North sitcoms will be performed).
This is a two day affair in London organised by the people behind the very successful Screenwriting festival (this is the first year of the spin-off for comedy script writers).
Saturday 9th April is all about the seminars and panel discussions and will be the main day. Graham mentions some of the topics above. They really are making sure they get top knowledgeable people to speak on these subjects. Griff Rhys Jones, Jon Plowman and Robert Popper are amongst those signed up, and I know they've got another couple of big names just confirmed that they'll be announcing soon.
Obviously some people will be heading home Saturday night, but for those still in London on Sunday, there's a bonus day of networking and script editing opportunities.
I've met with one of the organisers to check the organisation's commitment before the BCG mentioned this event publically. Based on this meeting, I'm confident to say this is going to be a very useful weekend, both in terms of sharpening your knowledge and giving you some networking opportunities.
It's actually ideally pitched at the level many BCG members are at - i.e. some radio credits to your name (or nearly some) and maybe the odd TV sketch, but not yet the big commission you're after, or the regular gag writing job on one of the panel shows. Be warned, if you're a total novice - i.e. never written a script before - this isn't for you though, and you'd be best to save your money - it's about building on what you've already know and have achieved, not teaching you the basics.
At £149 it's obviously not that cheap... but, as ContainsNuts says, for two days of solid networking and advice, I think it's actually a pretty good deal (especially compared to the Broadcast Forum one in September). Obviously at that price it's only for people serious about furthering their writing, but that's kind of a positive thing in a way, as you know everyone attending is serious and committed, so the discussions can be deep rather than frivolous.
Because we're lovely to you, we've actually secured BCG members a £25 discount! For more information about the event and to get the discount see here: https://www.comedy.co.uk/make_it/comedy_writing_festival/
*puts hand in air* Yes, me! I'm going .
If I get as much overtime as I think I will this next payday at the end of muxh (I've gone done loads of OT) then hopefully I'll be able to go.
Failing that, I'm going to enter their little comp to win a free ticket (the one where you write just one page of dialogue).
