I love it.

Oh, not this again . . .

Nathan Barley was really terrible so it doesn't count.

Barleys great.

Spaced & Green Wing

Julian Barratt's done 3 good ones.

Asylum, Boosh and Nathan Barley.
All very different characters too.

Asylum was painful. Seriously unwatchable. Not just not-funny.

Which actors/actresses have done more than one good sitcom then? Who's done more than two?

Depends on your definition of 'good', as ever. For me, these spring to mind...

David Jason. Porridge, Open All Hours, OFAH.
Nicholas Lyndhurst. OFAH, After You've Gone, Goodnight Sweetheart - even The Piglet Files wasn't that bad.
Ronnie Barker. Porridge, Open All Hours. Clarence was meh, ok.
Belinda Lang. Dear John..., 2 Point 4 Children.
Rowan Atkinson. Blackadder, The Thin Blue Line, Mr Bean.
Sid James. Hancock's Half Hour, Citizen James, George and the Dragon, Bless This House.

And so on.

Nothing much recently, I note.

Heres some people who have been in more than one good sitcom off the top of my head:

Dylan Moran: Black Books and How Dyou Want Me?
Bill Bailey: Spaced and Black Books
Tamsin Greig: Black Books And Green Wing
Rik Mayall: Young Ones and Bottom

Ricky Gervais: Office and Extras

Aaron - you must be the only person in the world who likes According to Bex more than Spaced. Even Jessica Stevenson thought it was terrible - so bad in fact she fired her agent because of it!

Anyway, good topic this. I'm going to have a think. Off the top of my head David Mitchell is quite good at picking both good and bad projects. We discussed this last year - Peep Show .v. Blunder for example.

steve coogan
best - partridge
worst - saxondale

nick frost
best - spaced
worst - hyperdrive

rowan atkinson
best - blackadder
worst - thin blue line / mr bean

:D

I'd love to see ATB again actually, get a proper viewing of it. I seem to recall the odd half-chuckle to a few lines, but am pretty sure I only watched a couple of the episodes. Spaced, on the other hand, I watched straight through the whole series', barely raising a smile.

If you didn't like the show, why did you watch the whole series? Surely after a few episodes you would have gave up? Did you see the imaginary gun fight? Surely that made you laugh?

Ah, one of my favourite episodes; perfection.

Spaced & Green Wing

Green Wing was quite terrible I thought. Really annoying, and the shooting style is so dated for me.

Although I do really rate Stephen Mangan, and, of course, Tamsin Grieg. Both very talented.

David Jason has a good record, for sure. Not overly keen on Open All Hours, but it's not terrible by any means.

Lyndhurt's record is terrible. You forgot Butterflies which was written by one of the worst people in the world.

Atkinson - good call!!

Saxondale is watchable.

Hyperdrive - terrible. Sub Dwarf and unfunny.

Thin Blue Line, thanks to Atkinson, has some great delivery in it. And David Haig is bloody brilliant.

ATB - christ that was complete toilet. More comedy from hacks.

Spaced - despite having dated visually, it's still brilliant. Though the student following it has it very annoying.

Nope. I was hoping it would improve. Besides, I paid for it.

Like I said, I watched the whole thing, and didn't laugh. :)

Really? What do you watch then, 'cos the "different" stuff I can't think that I'd seen before.

I was listing the good shows. Hence making a point not to include Butterflies.

Hmm... I like all three, personally. Looking at Bean and Blackadder, though, it's a pretty impressive range Atkinson has. I don't need to illustrate how diametrically opposed the two shows' styles are. I think the physical comedy of Mr Bean is excellent; perhaps that sub-genre is just not to your taste.

Barleys great.

Yep, Barley was great. Awesome, in fact.

Craig Charles
Best: Lister
Worst: Whoever he was in Coronation Street

Peter Kay
Best: Brian Potter
Worst: Whoever he was in Coronation Street

Barbara Windsor
Best: The girl in Carry on Camping
Worst: Whoever she is in Eastenders

Jo Joyner
Best: Patty the sex therapist in Swinging
Worst: Whoever she plays in Eastenders

Ade Edmondson
Best: Eddie Hitler
Worst: Whoever he is in Holby City

Can anyone spot a pattern of these previously looked-up-to comedy stars who have delved new depths, lowering themselves to star in soap opera?

Dan

Agree with a lot of the previous stuff so here's a few new additions. I could have a field day with this to be honest.

Tessa Peake Jones:
BEST Only Fools and Horses
WORST So Haunt Me

Richard Ayoade:
BEST Darkplace
WORST Man to Man with Dean Learner

Felicity Kendall:
BEST The Good Life
WORST Solo

Ardal O’Hanlan:
BEST Father Ted
WORST Blessed

Peter Egan:
BEST Ever Decreasing Circles
WORST Home Again

Steve Coogan:
BEST Partridge
WORST Dr Terrible's House of Horror (or something like that)

Yes, there's a few discrepancies here (eg. Ayaode was good in the IT Crowd too and O'Hanlan was equally shit in My Hero, but you get the drift).

There may be more...
