Crime rates go up during the summer, so extending the light in a day would be a godsend for criminals. And they've already got it easy with the Tories slashing police budgets.
Double Summertime. Page 2
It would save on light bulbs I suppose.
As I understand it the proposal is to go back one hour for Winter and still have summer time, so go back a further hour for Summer.
Effectively we would be on the same time zone as Crance & Germany etc.
Another nail in the coffin of British Sovereignty.
And all because of the intertia of our social system, which cannot learn what farmers do which is to get up earlier in summer.
Changing the clocks is of course useless to farmers, because their animals can't read the time, so summer time just screws up farmers time tables for the benefit of the lazy townies/factory-workers.
We should learn to have office/shopping hours of 7:30 to 3:30 or 8am to 4pm rather than mess about kludging the clocks.

Hey it's not my proposal!!!!
But I think its a good one. It promotes tourism. We need money from outside sources - as we don't make stuff anymore tourism is it.
And lets face it the two farmers who are left in the country aren't really worth considering.
In terms of crime what differance will it make - there are still the smae number of hours of light and darkness????
In winter it's still dark here at 8 a.m. so the thought of it being dark till 10 in the morning utterly horrifies me. I'm quite sure it would lead to people being more depressed than ever in winter. It would seem like winter was lasting till April or even May.
This wouldn't work well for me if I need to have an early night during weekdays. It has to look like night time for my sleep time. If it confuses the noisey tweety birds who wake me before my alarm then perhaps it'll be worth it.

That does sound pretty horrible.

You guys need to move your country about a thousand miles to the south.

Only for a month or two in the summer. I think I'd die if I lived in England and had less than 8 hours of sunlight in the winter.
People are talking out of their chuff's in this thread! There is absolutely no problem with the amount of sunlight we get during the summer. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

The cost of implementing such a change would be very large and would cause a lot of problems with devices and processes that are programmed for the traditional time change schedule.

I don't think we do go below 8 hours. And we have 8 hours only for a few weeks. The rest of the year it's between about 9 and 16 hours of light.
I love having the changes, it must be pretty boring to have the same amount all the time.
