Nothin' better than a classic funk album for me.

I haven't heard it before! That's great!! The drummer's sick on that! Just checked it up; done in 2006!
I really ought to keep up with modern funk releases. I tend to be dismissive, then end up eating my sentiments after. A group I like called "Beige" did a relatively unknown album release in 2005, and I've ordered that off Amazon. Gonna be great!
Thanks very much for showing me that!

Two more dope tracks...thanks man!! Just checked popsike for the single Salt - Hung Up...the price...*gulp*
I'm an 80s head, myself. Love all of the 80s funk tracks, like this one. Roger Troutman & Zapp, Slave (my favourite of all!), Ivy, daKRASH, Reel To Real etc. Occasionally collect the odd record etc.
Quote: Griff @ February 20 2011, 12:03 AM GMTI've just checked my iTunes collection and discovered I have several Bar-Kays tracks on Stax compilation albums. They are fantastic. I might have to get me some more of their fine sounds.
Good man!! The Bar-Kays have done some beautiful jams over the years that I'm sure won't disappoint!! Glad you Injoy!
They participated in Stax funded concert in Watts in 1972, and were probably the best group that performed. Here they were at that concert.
Hearing about the Bar-Kays reminded me of another badass group, with a similar name: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf3s-5b2DFw

Another Memphis killer!!
Here's some nice soul. It influenced a Beatles song, but I can't remember which one now:
Bobby Parker - Watch Your Step
Bar Kays - Too Hot To Stop
Oh, yeah!

Nice! Is that bass acoustic on that song? I think it is, but either way, it's mighty fiiinnne!

Ace! That was their first album when they signed onto the Mercury label! (Prior to that, they were on Stax's subsidiary "Volt" label)
Quote: Griff @ February 20 2011, 11:44 AM GMTI really like it when people put old 45s on YouTube.
Yeah, me too. There's some exclusive 45 only songs that just can't be obtained anywhere else, even in compilations. A few labels like "Jazzman" and "Funk45" have started reissuing some of the really rare tracks onto new 7 inch pressings, but there's still a heck of a lot that are largely unknown, especially ones from the late 70s and 80s.
Weren't the Bar Kays the Stax house band?
I'm listening to Joe Brown - and trying hard to remember a pun I thought of for my sitcommission.

No; that was Booker T. & The M.G.'s. (of whom some of the Mar Keys comprised as part of their horn section)
The Hold Steady. I went to see them on Friday, even jumped up and down a bit, like the kids do.
Okay people, as there's been a bit of Funk appreciation on here over the last few days, I think it's time to pull out this beast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTHTPxPRGYQ&feature=related
