I've been up since 6am too.
Was it Monet whose distinctive style was eventually revealed to be down to eye-sight problems, which he was unaware of and thought seeing things blurry and multicoloured was normal?
One of Tom Martin's paintings:

What's with you and all the "yoof" speak tonight, dear? Are you experiencing some sort of mid-life crisis? Shall I call you a doctor?
*realises am doctor*
Shall I call you a nurse?

Yep! And he's only 24.
That bastard.
I'm a big fan of Pollock. Number 23 is one of the first things I got to when I visit Tate Liverpool:
When I go the Walker art gallery, I am always drawn to this:
Ary Scheffer's Temptation of Christ.
I'm not religious, but I just love the portrayal of Satan in this painting. There is nothing evil about him, his expression is human and pained. It makes me sympathise with the devil much more than it does with Christ, and that is far from the intention of the artist.
Ha. That's great.
