BBC or ITV?

For me it has to be BBC. There are so many reasons. I think the Beeb is still great value for money at £145.50 (colour) and don't agree with those who say it's far too expensive. Look at what you get for your money.

Advert-free viewing, news coverage and general programming, that by and large, is without any political agenda, despite what some would say. A radio network that is worth the money alone and a wonderful resource in the BBC website. That's just the top line without delving any deeper to individual departments and specific shows.

Don't get me wrong ITV isn't all bad, but it just feels so low-rent in a lot of its mainstream programming, particularly Saturday prime-time offerings. It's virtually given up on sitcoms and its sports coverage is fairly second rate too.

I'm sure there's plenty on here will disagree with these (personal) views and I now watch with interest to see how this will go (if it indeed goes anywhere)

I haven't commented on Sky as I feel as a non-terrestrial broadcaster and one that's paid for in addition to the licence fee, they're in a slightly different ballpark. Save to say that compared to the cost of the licence fee then they're bloody well expensive (I have a full subscription btw that weighs in at over £600 per year)

I would happily pay my licence fee just to fund BBC Radio. If BBC TV disappeared I'd be annoyed, as I quite like a lot of it, but still there'd be C4 to watch and the occasional thing on ITV, plus lots of American box sets. If BBC Radio disappeared there's no other radio stations worth listening to. And I do love the wireless.

Agree with all of that.

BBC for me, with 4 second.

ITV is a big pile of steaming shite. So BBC wins by default. I don't watch BBC that much, but would miss it if it went. I think it is important, even if it goes about doing stuff in the wrong way most of the time.

BBC Love it.

BBC. But it's really not a fair fight.

I can't imagine anyone choosing ITV!

BBC vs Channel 4 might be a better choice.
Would still choose BBC though.

Probably a fair comment.

It's just ITV's consistently good showing in viewing figures always puzzles me. Heartening to see we're (so far) Beeb fans; but could this be because Newsjack's currently running and we know they look on here from time to time.

Well if they do, that's only because most of their audience is still hanging onto life or they cater to the huge amount of chav scum that inhabits this land.

Divide £145 by 365, then divide it by the number of folk in your home. The cost of BBC per day is peanuts. I never understand why folk complain when you think what they spend on fags/drink/buns/Mars bars etc.

Totally unscientific example taken at random.

BBC prime time tonight

Let's Dance for Comic Relief
National Lottery - Secret Fortune
Casulaty
Live at The Apollo

Chav factor estimated at 3/10

ITV prime time tonight

Ant and Dec's Push The Button
Take Me Out
Benidorm

Chav factor estimated at 9/10

;)

BBC.

As for ITV, I don't think I could ever really like a channel which considers Paddy McGuinness to be an amiable and talented prime-time star.

Personally I love BBC TV you get much better shows on it. On ITV you have dancing on ice I rather watch BBC because sometime they have some great documentaries on about people who I would know if I wasn't watching telly. Tonight on BBC 2 they had a show on about Tony Hancock, and on itv1 they had on take me out with Paddy McGuiness. Which is trash telly, I was watching Tony Hancock tonight I was seeing ground-breaking comedy at that the in history .I was born in 1990 so I never really got to see any Tony Hancock in my childhood, I had Freddie Starr an audience with as comedy in my childhood on itv.

ITV at the minute for Champions League and Coronation Street. Overall, BBC by far.
