Quote: Jack Massey @ February 18 2011, 10:33 AM GMTI've worked a system. I have enough money for my very basic's in life (food etc.) but nothing else. So this is what I'll do. My next batch of loan comes in in 6 weeks time. Every Monday say, I'll take £30 out the bank. That's the weeks 'social' money. That'll leave me £180 in the red. I will hopefully work that off in the Summer by staying at my parents place and getting a job. I don't like the situation, but I'm only here once, so I'm going to enjoy it. The reason I'm low on cash is not due to this semester, but due to the last one. Freshers week and Christmas really put me in a lot of debt- putting me £250 in the red, so by being £180 in the red this time, this semester I've cut down £320, so by that theory, I should be fine by the end of my time at Uni (and will get a job hopefully). So will be cutting down for the last bit of term, but will still have enough money to watch the football and have a good night out once a week.
On those figures I make it that you have only cut down £60 not £320.
Start your own business at uni.
Seriously.
If I was studying now that is what I would do.
Either go really local with it or with the internet and Skype people don't know your a student in halls!!!
Why not start studying, BF?
Whilst it is possible to be pro-active as a young student, and start your own business, whilst still being a good student and a fun one. I can't imagine there being much time for the fun part, it's something that would probably be sacrificed. And seeing as Jack-the-lad here wants an overdraft for fun, I don't see it as a viable solution to his problem.
Unless you got paid to have fun.
Done my studying Leevil.
The point I was making was why get into debt?
The solution is clearly to earn the extra cash Jack needs.
But as we all know Jobs are non-existant for young folk these days.
So why not do something off your own back? I'm not on about starting a new ICI from the chemistry department storeroom. How about a T-shirt business with some "comedy" catchphrases on them and sell em on a market stall down the union for a few hours a week.

No think about it. I get my term loan. I finish my first term -£250. I finish my second term £-180. That means I have spent -60/70 (whatever), plus the minus 200 I spent last term, which I won't be paying this term round.
Think of it this way, say I went -200 last term, if I spent as much money this term, I'd be -500
