I would have thought that Brighton would be the perfect location for a variety show, but it would have copmpetition. And you would have to be REALLY careful to source your acts. I would love to run my own standup club, but Newcastle is saturated at the moment, and with more big clubs coming. Maybe in the future.

They wanted it for TV and went through a year of meetings, all that was left to do was for the Head of Comedy to draw up a contract, she loved it........then suddenly she left without signing and went to another post. The new Head wanted to discover her own 'babies' so my play got dumped.
So what else is new?
Ouch.

Yes, it plunged me into a depression for five years and that's when I turned to drink. I wasn't a drinker before....double ouch
But back to the topic
BBC/writersroom/opportunities is usually full of calls for theatrical submissions.
Last May I submitted my (only) play for the HighTide Festival 2011, having seen the opportunity there. I heard a couple of weeks ago that my piece hadn't been selected (they seem to have gone with Andrew Motion's first play), but it's being considered under their future development and production strands.

Andrew Motion? Great to see that the new and untried talent gets the break. After all its his first play.
