Well done Ian - your sketch was one of the best things in the show, along with Yellow Pages. A fair number of flops in there though - and I can't see how 60 second interview can be made to work without repeating the same thing each week.
Where was Lewis, by the way?
One more thing - maybe someone can ask tomorrow, but what *is* their rule about swearing? Tonight's had bleeped F-bombs which I had understood to be considered "as bad as saying the word itself and therefore a big no-no". Is bleeping now okay?
Maybe the best condition to hear it in,
Congrats Ian. Two things in a show -- nice one!
Thanks lots everyone and, yes Badge, that's four out of four for me (though in ep 1 this time and not biting my nails for a half a vox-pop in episode 6 of series 3!)

Guilty, I'm afraid. 'Accountability Hunt' was my sketch, though I used Gary Lineker rather than Aled Jones and the f-bomb line was not mine. That said, both decisions were better than what I'd done.
Dan
Just listened and definitely a mixed bag in episode one.
Concur with earlier opinions that BBC Egypt and Yellow Pages were good and loved the 'Accountability Hunt' & Thatcher / Miners lines.
(I quite like the idea that they put the writers in order so having two points of reference we can now work out, roughly, who wrote what.)
But was it just me or was the choice of subjects a bit odd? Christina Aguilera & the Catholic Confession App got more mentions than Egypt. Bankers tax and phone tapping didn't get mentioned at all.

Not guilty Dan - I liked that sketch. I'm just left confused by their rules on bleeps (which you didn't include).
I got a one-liner on.
"Since the last series of Newsjack, the country has suffered more cuts then an episode of Woman's Hour hosted by Andy Gray."
Boom boom.
happy to start the new series with something on the show.
Well done Dan and Ian.
Listening to it now. Agree that it's a mixed bag. Although easily as funny as the 10 O'Clock Show. Or 10 O'Clock Live. Or whatever it's called.

I didn't think the sound quality was that good on the Apps.
Congrats to everyone who got stuff on the show! And commiseratons to those, like me, who didn't .
I noticed the majority of one-liners in the show were in Miles's intros/inbetween-y bits (like your gag, Trabs). Yet in the writers' guide it doesn't include those (ie it asks for submissions for Newsfox, Corrections, And Finally, and Voice Messages) - which is why I didn't submit any, thinking they were written by in-house people or Miles himself.
So I'm thinking it *is* OK to submit those sorts of jokes? I may put this question to the webchat Q&A later...

They'll take out any bits they think are funny. It could be someone sends in a whole sketch, and they only like one line from it.
I'd put them at the start of your sketch, as if they don't use your sketch, they can still rip off your intro.
Well done Trabs!
Dan

I agree. I think a lot of gags are gonna lose their impact because of that.

AFAIK bleeping is fine - but everything has to play out in context. It's not something any radio show will do all the time, just now and again when the gag really demands it (which it did in this case).

I once wrote an 'opening monologue' for Miles and bits of it were used. The whole show is a giant 'cut and shut', in some ways.
Also, Mr Jupp is currently on tour, so I think it's possible that he just pitches up on the Wednesday and reads from the script. I doubt he has a huge imput apart from the 'No Balamory' clause. Perhaps somebody will ask them a question about this later today.
Anyway, just throw as many funny things as you can at this programme and hope some of it sticks!
Ahh Thanks for the tips, guys.

I've written a few intros to sketches based around Balamory and I too have noticed it's never been mentioned on the show. (I mean it can't possibly be because what I wrote wasn't funny). Wonder if there is a blanket ban on Balamory - Rev - Anything Dan Tetsell's been in?
Or is it because they get about 50 every week and are sick to death of reading about them?
On a similar vein did anyone think there were a lot less one-liners on the show last night? Certainly explicit one liners (e.g. App) rather than intros etc. Does this mean fewer previous credits to be handed out each week. Noooooooo!

That's probably the best advice of the lot.
